My spouse fixed my other franken-rebuilt Dell Optiplex ProxMox node by editing a network config file to detect the new default card name that came with the new motherboard.
While their approach was simpler, faster, and less destructive, my approach...uh...required less planning.

Linux microblog update:
ProxMox (or maybe my network hardware) does not like when I swap harddrives onto different motherboards (and therefore different ethernet cards with new MAC addresses.)
I do this anyway because used old Dell Optiplexes tend to be... used...and old, and it can be a bit...dynamic...adding additonal storage to them.
Luckily reinstalling a ProxMox node from my USB key is quick, and now the node thinks it was born with this motherboard and ethernet card.

Linux microblog update - I just used my computers this weekend, for personal computer stuff.
I didn't add remove, re-image, or rewrite anything.
I realize this is kind of a non-update.
Even as a non-stop command line guru, sometimes I just want a simple, stable PC to use.
Linux as my daily driver meets me where I am, and does a very crisp clean fast job at being a boring desktop for note-taking and web browsing.

Time for another Linux microblog update.
I wiped my PC and installed Commodore OS Vision 3.1. (Which now fits into about 9 Gb!)
It is a delight. Nowhere near as practical as the usual recommendations like Mint and Debian. But it makes up all it lacks with pure jot and style!
And it got me hooked on Slay Radio - home of Commodore 64 Remix music.

This week, we cover the writing layer of the fediverse: Ghost, WriteFreely, Micro.blog, Plume, WordPress, and Flipboard. Text was ActivityPub's first real workload, but these platforms didn't all arrive at federation the same way.
Ghost: a UK non-profit that funds Fedify (by @hongminhee) the framework its federation is built on. it's a publisher and a fediverse client at once, with an inbox as well as an outbox. Our newsletter is also powered by it, so @index is followable from any Mastodon app right now.
WriteFreely: one primary maintainer, Matt Baer (@matt), roughly 1,400 of 1,900+ commits, going since 2015. Funded by his own hosted product, Write.as.
Micro.blog: a Kickstarter By Manton Reese (@manton) that funded the platform before it had a single user. POSSE, native ActivityPub, and native Bluesky, no bridge.
Plume: a simple platform that also supported collaborative multi-author blogs. But no longer actively developed - it recommends WriteFreely and WordPress instead of itself.
WordPress: built-in ActivityPub (using plugin by Matthias Pfefferle - @pfefferle) plus a native AT Protocol plugin and real moderation tooling.
Flipboard: curating other people's writing rather than hosting its own.

The story of #microblog migration is reasonably okay esp. for masto-to-masto. Microblog content is relatively ephemeral, and its not too bad to leave your old content behind.
I left a sizable account @[email protected] behind, built around Humane Technology advocacy, which I later completely erased from that server. I also once erased the history of this account, to demonstrate the ephemerality, and that we shouldn't use #microblogging for valuable discussions we like an archive on, like #ActivityPub development.
For different domains, such as video apps like #Peertube, this is a different story, archiving more important. I recently found out that perhaps the ActivityPub Conference 2020 videos have been lost, where instance https://conf.tube redirects to @fossnorth channel at https://peertube.anduin.net/c/fossnorth/videos
No one is responding thus far. It's unclear who owned APConf channel at the time, who runs the new instance, and who runs #FOSSNorth.

Nie powiem, że się znam, bo wiem, że nie. W końcu nie z takich studiów mnie wyrzucali.
Niejeden już udowodnił, że skoro woda w Chile się nie wygina, to Ziemia musi być płaska. A co bardziej zaangażowany kolega pokazał mi dowody na YT, więc to musi być prawda, ale…
…przez ponad 50 lat byłem w wielu miejscach świata, o różnych porach i z dziwnych powodów.
Zjeździłem tę Ziemię z powodów, których podawać tu nie trzeba…
Ale tak to nie bywało.
Nie tak, żeby przedwczoraj Zara Larsson występowała na scenie w półbikini przy 38°C, a na tej samej scenie dzisiaj The Cure musieli grać w czapkach przy 11°.
Ale tak to na świecie nie bywało.
I nawet jeśli woda jest płaska, a czapka z folii chroni przed falami, to coś tu jest chyba mocno nie tak.Jest 3 lipca, zaczęło lać… Czekam na śnieg.

…I’ve spent more than fifty years travelling this planet, at all kinds of times and for all sorts of reasons.
I’ve crossed this Earth for reasons best left unsaid…
But I’ve never seen it like this.
Not where, the day before yesterday, a Woman (Zara Larsson) could walk on stage dressed for 38°C, almost in a bikini, and then, on that very same stage today, the Gentlemen (The Cure) have to perform wearing beanies in 11° weather.
Didn’t stop them from throwing me out in the end…
But this isn’t how the world used to work.
And even if the Earth is flat and a tinfoil hat really does block the waves…
…something is seriously off.It’s July 3rd. It’s started raining. Now I’m waiting for snow.

Sinds een jaar sta ik het mezelf toe mij met sieraden te behangen. Soms subtiel, soms expressiever.
Het begon met hangers van Palestijnse ondernemers en dat bereide zich uit. Soms pogend gendernormen subtiel te doorbreken. Maar ik mág meer de art nouveau en -deco franjes onderzoeken.
De collectie is intussen zodanig uitgebreid dat ik een sieraden doos heb aangeschaft. Vinted is overigens letterlijk een roestvrij staal-, zilver- en goudmijn.

In my contant research for usesful pieces of #technology I've recently discovered an app called Reeder. Some of you may already heard of it because apparently it's been around for 15 years or so. What it does it pretty simple. It's an #RSS reader and also an aggregator for social profiles. The result is a clean, curated timeline that includes your preferred #rssfeed, posts from profiles on #Mastodon, #Pixelfed, #Microblog, #Bluesky and much more.
It's currently only available for Apple devices.
I'm liking it a lot because I can collect in there all the content I want to read/view and which do not require an interaction. Be they feed or profiles in the fediverse or somewhere else. -

Linux Mint microblog update:
Why not put Mint on a cheap Chromebook?
It's really difficult to get a modern Chromebook to boot to install media that isn't ChromeOs.
Really really difficult.
But once booted to the Linux Mint install media, things are just moving along with the usual chill simplicity...so far.
I will update again once I am finish.
(Update: No luck so far. But I will turn this into a thread with updates until my Chromebook runs some version of Linux.)Also, I clicked past so many warranty voiding warnings.
I genuinely wouldn't bother if:
1. Google's terms of service were short enough to read.
2. Google had stayed out of my news feed for privacy concerns for, let's say, the past five years.But lacking both of those, I'm going to continue to wipe Google's OS off of any device I use.

I was this many years old when I learned that a Linux Mint boot would pause and give me detailed instructions on how to connect my monitor cable to my video graphics card, after I carelessly connected my monitor directly to the motherboard.

It is time for another Linux Mint microblog!
My wife had trouble printing on our pretty old wifi connected Epson color printer. The driver provided by Epson got a 1 star review from her after trying it.
And....drum roll please...
the native Linux driver needed a **command line fix!**This - needing to fix something on the command line - is the main scenario many of my Windows friends seem most uncomfortable with.
As you'll note from my previous posts in this series, needing the command line for anything on Mint is exceedingly rare. (If I recall correctly, this is the first case of the command line being required, in this particular series of installs.)
But this makes it official: command line fixes in Linux are not entirely gone.
My wife does prefer the command line, so if there had been a click-ops way to do it, she would probably find the command line solution first, anyway.
And I love that my wife shared a solution with me that I can just paste into my terminal, should I decide to print something.
She and I discussed, and we agree that I probably print something once in every three years, or so.
She also pointed out that I get away with this in part because anything I desperately need to print, she's likely to print for me before I even remember that we own a printer.
