  1. Technical debt, aka I keep forgetting about custom.css: taonaw.com/2026/05/14/technica

Wait, how can something on a website be broken to one degree or another? Is it broken or not? Well, you see… CSS.

  2. Account on micro.blog created. Finding new (healthier) ways to share on/consume socials.

Now I need to explore how it works and what it can do.

  3. Paying for the good internet (with an escape plan): taonaw.com/2026/05/10/paying-f

Sal jumped ship from Bear to 11ty and Cloudflare, triggering my recurring “what if Micro.blog explodes?” angst. I do love it here, but as they say: it’s not if, it’s when. But who wants to manage more server stuff? I already break my Emacs config too often.

  4. The Programmer’s Fulcrum: 08 May, 2026

This post originally appeared on The Fulcrum.

Welcome to this week’s The Programmer’s Fulcrum.

It’s your weekly curation of the essential news in the Open Media Network and Fediverse development communities with a focus on devastating big tech via Techno Anarchism.

There is a lot of coverage of the shitshow that is ShitHub this week. And that makes me so happy I moved to Codeberg several […]

  5. So, seems like i managed to break my website yet again...! 404 anyone?

And now I have to go to work, so.

I will be back shortly, I hope.

  6. A bit of messing around and the funky javascript to embed toots in my blog page ( aarontrevena.co.uk/blog/index. ) now has pagination, and links to pages in posts and to the post itself ( thanks to the nice blog and code from @raymondcamden ) - my javascript is getting a bit better #blogpost #javascript #astro #microblog

  7. Just so the curious know, I have started a Micro.Blog and it will cross post to my feed here, the blog link: brainbox.micro.blog

If you get a reply from @Brainbox this is me. I will attempt the cross posting thing for a bit and see how well it does!

As I am trying to create something that I can talk about more focused things, but still communicate with the greater fediverse!

  8. @manton about AI usage in Micro.blog:

"Earlier this year I blogged a strategy for how I want to use AI thoughtfully in Micro.blog. It has been a good guide for me, like user-centered guardrails..."

Micro.blog has a master switch for AI. If the user turns it off, there’s no AI usage. Period. None of the AI features would work:

  9. Does anyone remember the Advogato social network? I was microblogging there from June 2000 till July 2003. I find it kind of cool that the domain now redirects to an archived copy on the Wayback Machine.

The trust metrics were an interesting concept, I wonder if something like that would make sense for the Fediverse...

  10. Okay, so while that federates:

    Anyone have #fediverse #microblog #app recommendations?

I'm wanting an Open Vibes type of fedi client for now so I can post to both my Hachyderm and my GoToSocial instance at the same time just until it's got stuff and is out there

Also you can eventually find me at

  11. On This Day page dates are broken: taonaw.com/2026/04/25/on-this-

When you fix one thing, you break another. ISO dates are nice, but now my “On This Day” page doesn’t understand what these mean. American dates have and will always be an “old man yells at cloud” issue for me.

  12. Fediverse Inside

  13. ISO dates are back: taonaw.com/2026/04/18/iso-date

Got ISO dates working on my blog again, just like the old days. Had to dig into microhooks and Hugo’s recommendation (hat tip goes to Claude for making those more understandable). Turns out that “2006” is not just some random year value that can be replaced. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you why anyway.

  14. Not apologizing for micro.blog problem where it’s spamming duplicate posts from iPadOS.

  15. Let's continue my #Linux #microblog.

My latest install of #LinuxMint now spends it's time pretty much 100% as a headless remote #devops environment that I SSH into to edit my chat bots. I have rejected the beautiful Linux Mint desktop environment it shipped with.

Rather than Linux Mint at my new speedy desktop, I choose to connect remotely from... Linux Mint on my pokey little laptop, or sometimes my powerful Dell Latitude work laptop running Linux Mint.

I've also added two clever little Dell Optiplex Mimi towers, running - let me pause while you guess - did you guess Linux Mint and Linux Mint? Exactly!

One of them is a guest workstation for my wife or one of the kids to join me for coding jam sessions. Linux Mint is a great fit because it is sleek fast and easy to use.

The other is a dedicated headless chat-bot server. Linux Mint is a great fit for it, because I happened to have the Linux Mint boot media sitting ony desk when I built it.

  16. So I fixed my blog again: taonaw.com/2026/04/07/so-i-fix

Spent days debugging my blog’s broken microhooks, only to find Hugo was using the “default” file instead of my custom one. Turns out, a flipped template and a missing dash in a title were the culprits. Shoutout to Qwen3-Coder for the assist. AI can be a great tutor. My blog matters more than I thought.
