All this talk how SFP standard makes network equipment medium-agnostic, yet the network interface itself has a notion of supported link modes and it doesn't list the one I planned to use (10000baseLR/Full). Still waiting for cables delivery, so can't test, I don't know what to make of it but this is upsetting.
This is Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro and by that maker's software tools it makes sense that they are part of Nvidia now.

PG&E outage for all of Sunnyvale, UPS resources kept the home office and homelab online most of the hours. In the interim via LTE, decided to resume efforts on spec'ing the latest network refresh.
Big decisions; mostly around scale model design principles, some blandness re: OFED drivers and SPDK version parity for specific NIC/DPU SKUs, and analysis paralysis when focusing on critical nerdatorium protocol support.
Otherwise to say... I'm leaning towards additional Bluefield DPUs, where offload options are more important than bandwidth parity for production port speeds (also lower total port count using 4x25 breakouts), and there's no sense in paying more per unit for a CX6 25G vs BF2 25G... so... yep.

What does a #Mellanox aka #Nvidia #Infiniband card do when no device is connected to it?

I have a ConnectX-4 LX card. Using openvswitch, switchdev mode, bunch of VF's passed through with VLAN tags etc. (Proxmox) all working just fine.
Except to BSD VM's. mlx5en fails to load; mlx5_cmd_check fails with a CREATE_TIR error: bad parameter (syndrome 0x201139) and mce0 isn't created.
201139 is 'stateless tunneled offload' not supported.
VF doesn't need it, is there a way to stop BSD from trying the offloads when loading the module??

Привет, Хабр! Не так давно столкнулся с задачей разработки альтернативного решения для ограничения сетевого трафика. Такая задача возникла в рамках разработки системы лицензирования для продукта класса NGFW (Next Generation Firewall). Используя такую систему ограничений можно было бы предусмотреть несколько видов лицензий на коммерческое использование продукта, где в зависимости от уровня приобретенной лицензии можно было бы предоставлять полную, либо урезанную функциональность продукта в части его производительности. В этой статье хочу поделиться опытом решения данной задачи.

Unexpectedly find some OCP to PCIe slot adapters! Mount them, use them, move on with life. 🤩
Carriers are from Dell and the NICs are Mellanox ConnectX-5 25GbE (SKU MCX542A-ACAN), but they work with all of the other OCP NICs that I have as well (Intel, Broadcom, Qlogic, other Mellanox).

К написанию этой небольшой инструкции меня привела статья на Хабре - Быстрая сеть в домашней лаборатории или как я связался с InfiniBand . Я был очень заинтригован данным вопросом, но каково было моё удивление, когда я не мог найти почти никакой информации по InfiniBand на Windows в домашних условиях, например, в домашней лаборатории или в небольшом офисе. Информация была, конечно. Было описано, как использовали InfiniBand, какое оборудование использовали и о полученной производительности сети. Всё точно как у товарища из упомянутой статьи выше. Но не было информации о том, как поднять домашнюю сеть на IB, как настроить её и вообще с чего начать. Проведя время в интернете, я пришёл к выводу, что большинство пользователей, даже тех, кто знаком с сетями и их настройкой, тупо боятся слова InfiniBand. Для них это что-то сложное, используемое мегакорпорациями для создания суперсетей для суперкомпьютеров. А сочетание слов "InfiniBand дома" приводит их в ужас. А если ещё и коммутатор неуправляемый... Ну, вы поняли. Из той немногой информации, что мне удалось найти, я вычленил и написал простую инструкцию для новичков по InfiniBand в домашних условиях: какое оборудование нужно, как установить драйвера, как настроить сеть IB между несколькими ПК и неуправляемым коммутатором. Итак, давайте начнем!

Auch wenn mein neuer Server nen #HP ist und die wirklich viel Blödsinn haben, die #RAID6 nur mit Lizenzkey usw. Ist der Server mit #SFP+ und einem #Mellanox Port, in Kombination mit 60 Diskslots, perfect für mich. Nach dem ich das #iLO aufgemacht habe, darf ich jetzt auch die Lüfter steuern. Controller in #HBA mode gesetzt und #Btrfs mit #Raid1c4, schon ist das ganze gut nutzbar.
