Walked past this truck in the Melbourne CBD the other day. Looks like it belongs in some interesting new science fiction movie.

The retractable bollards for trams are a good idea. But we should also be removing cars from the CBD is general; they don’t mix well with the huge number of pedestrians.

Good ideas. They could start by bringing the pedestrian area between footpath and tram tracks to the same level as the footpath.

To comment on that article about Elizabeth St...
We've lived in the middle of the Melbourne CBD for 20 years, and all that time it's statistically being one of the city's top crime hotspots.
But it doesn't feel dangerous to live here, as generally incidents fall into very specific categories: often involving people who know each other, usually committed by people who don't live in the city themselves, and often happening at very specific hours and locations such as the nightclub strip on King Street.
When I see an article about a violent crime in the Melbourne CBD, I always look for the time – and very often it reads "at 3am" or thereabouts.
Anyway the reverse side of the excitement and variety of the CBD is the inevitable crime. It isn't a sleepy safe suburb, but it's also a fun place to be.

Oh look, The Age has published a nice profile of my street… oh, hang on…

Bring it on! Let's just hope the car obsessives don't try to nobble it.

That was unexpected. I'm sitting in a cafe in Fitzroy and a random patron told me he enjoyed my article about living 20 years in the Melbourne CBD. I don’t usually get recognised by strangers! But there are a couple of photos in the article.
Here is is if you'd like to read it:

What is it like living in Melbourne’s CBD? I’ve been here for 20 years - it’s like this#Melbourne #MelbourneCBD https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/i-ve-lived-in-melbourne-s-cbd-for-20-years-here-s-what-s-changed-20230216-p5cl0m.html

Nice sunrise! Good morning from Melbourne.

God it's good to see so many people in the Melbourne CBD again on a Saturday night, milling around, having fun. I absolutely love it. If only I could've somehow seen a glimpse of this future in the midst of the COVID lockdowns, it would've done a lot for my morale.
-
I'm off to a hotel opening this morning - the new Le Méridien Melbourne within the old Metro nightclub at the top of Bourke Street. There have been a hell of a lot of new Melbourne CBD hotels opened since the pandemic started - all planned before it, of course. Lucky the city is busy again!

"Coffee at Little Mule, or a beer in the strange loading-zone jumble that was St Jerome’s. A pastrami roll, and music played off vinyl at Rue Bebelons..."
For The Age, I write about 20 years living in the Melbourne CBD, and what should happen next. Read it in print today, or online here: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/i-ve-lived-in-melbourne-s-cbd-for-20-years-here-s-what-s-changed-20230216-p5cl0m.html
Enjoy!

If anyone tells you the Melbourne CBD is dead – they are very wrong. I just went out dining with friends on Hardware Lane, and it was packed. Live music, great atmosphere, that magic Melbourne vibe is back.

More visually appealing, rustic building surfaces of #melbourne
I love how designers, owners and historical laws preserve these types of structures, to ensure you and I (so too future gens) can marvel at man-made beauty.

Yesterday arvo we dropped into one of our favourite laneway bars, Whitehart. It’s actually right behind our apartment building, so if we step out the fire stairs exit we’re almost there. :)

Melburnians - if you’re strolling down Bourke Street west of Elizabeth Street today, keep an eye out for people handing out free coffee vouchers for the new branch of Axil in the Galleria shopping mall. Free coffee! That’s a win. #Coffee #Melbourne #MelbourneCBD
