Finally getting around to watching the original Mean Girls. I'm in the age bracket that just missed it. (I was still in my 20s when American Pie, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc came out, but just turned 30 when this one was released.)
It's like one of those 90s movies I was talking about the other day but with noticeable differences. It's a piece of bridge media for sure. I can very much see its influence on millennial culture. ("Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen. It's not going to happen!" It happened.)
I wonder if anyone got the Janis Ian reference, as the name of the emo girl? She's a singer famous in the 70s for her song about being seventeen. [Just to make sure you know it, it's playing quietly in the background at 47:30.]
I totally wasn't expecting the nerdcore performance.
I also wasn't expecting it to be a Christmas movie AND a Halloween movie.
