#matea — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #matea, aggregated by home.social.

  1. Once upon a time, during the Family War, such a feat would have been possible, with the rift to Ta’terra allowing Maag’s forces to walk the lands of #Matea. Since then, the gate has been sealed. There is no Heaven equivalent; walkable or otherwise.
While this wasn’t part of the question specifically, traversal to the elemental planes can be done on foot. They’re each complicated in their own way, but it’s doable.

  2. When the outsider races began mixing with others, they each brought their own changes to the language; Half-Elven, Half-Orc, Halfling, and Human.

Tabaxi brought their own words into #Matea when they crossed the border between story and reality. Meanwhile, the Eladrin and Fairy folk followed through the rift, bringing Sylvan and Inglesh.

So while there are common roots and sounds from evolutions, there are also completely different languages in the world.

  3. The dolphinfolk of Gomun once hosted the most renowned magical academy of all of #Matea, taking in students from all over the world. Since Rakhada’s Folly, they have exiled all visitors, and maintained a radio silence with land dwellers, refusing to make contact. Some suspect the city has fallen to some catastrophe, but are unable to communicate.
And though sapience is questionable now, rumours persist of survivors of the Gunsul Citadel, twisted by the oceanic depths.

  4. Ah, an age-old philosophical question. Popular theory suggests the former, that Mother and Father came to the place where #Matea was made, and worked on it together before creating Daughter, Sister, and Brother as their domains became necessary. However, there is a belief out there that posits the latter as the true origin; that mortal kind were the originators, creating the Divinities from their own needs and desires via prayer. This is a fringe belief however.

  5. “Ah, a tale is it? For a warm bed, a warm meal, and (with consent) warm companionship, I will gladly regale you with stories of my homeland, told by my liege. Or if you prefer something a more familiar flavour, I know several of this world of #Matea. And should some spare currency find solace in my storytelling, I shan’t turn it away.

Something closer to the heart, you say? Then we have an accord! Listen now, as I tell a legend of love, loss, and murder most foul…”

  6. Though they can seemingly generate gold from mundane objects, it is of little use. Even before the Fall, #Matea converted to a paper note-based currency. And any merchant worth their job knows that Midasian coins still bear the curse. But that doesn’t mean that they are useless altogether. Cursebearers have the control to transmute the form of their tainted property. Wielding a golden axe and heavy plate one moment; a dagger and light shielding the next.

  7. With the unmaking of manasteel, the weakening of magic, and the overall calamity of The Fall, many people had to learn new methods to continue their lifestyle. Some, even turning to practices considered archaic or no longer necessary in the modern magitechnological societies of #Matea. Individuals who paved the way for new ideas and ways to survive in a new, uncertain world. Those who salvaged from the wreckage of the past to find a forward path.

    This is #SubclOctober.

  8. Though most magic comes from mortal kind, it occasionally occurs among the creatures of #Matea. Rarely, in a nest of Saylen, one might appear with a stronger ability in magic. Empowering their natural talents, they can steal the voice of their target, rendering them mute while their voice is no longer with them. Others have tried to replicate this effect, but found that without the natural saylen physiology, there is an elemental magical backlash to the user.

  9. For as long as life has existed on #Matea, people have been enraptured by the twin, dancing suns. From their effects of daily eclipses, to the amount and quality of light they project. In studying the strength of nocturnal darkness, scholars have discovered a way to channel it to their will. The Shroud of Flaun causes a field of darkness to emerge from the caster, while allowing a small number of others to see through it, unhindered.

  10. There are many odd magical occurrences across #Matea to draw inspiration from when theorycrafting on the creation of magic. One clever soul, using the hand of a clock and a page of a calendar, wove a spell that, when cast, would allow a person to become intangible to the world while in motion, but solid while at rest. Unfortunately, it was deemed unfit for purpose, as it counted ANY motion, such as attempting to take unowned items from their rightful place.

  12. Crown of Community - An ornate crown, with its centrepiece being the shard of divinity attuned to the Brother of the Community. Passed down through the governing body of the cities of #Matea, a long-standing agreement dictates that it be shared among all, not hoarded by one nation. Not only a symbol, it also posssess the powers of teleportation to any location within the city walls, summoning of loyal citizens, empathetic communication, and even control of pests.

  13. The Parting Gem - Legend has it that upon the first mortal death, and both Mother and Father did not know how to feel, they cried a collected tear which became a solid crystal as it fell to #Matea’s surface. Whether this is fact or fiction, the truth is this gem has been seen through the ages, and used for miracles. By trading a portion of your life, you can have any wish granted. The Parting Gem, as it became known, then vanishes to another part of the world.

  14. Lifebringer’s Harp - The shard of divinity devoted to the Father of Life, as one of the formational aspects of #Matea, possesses a strong radiant energy. When the gemstone was incorporated into a harp, the wielder found that they radiated an aura of healing energy. While in their possession, the harp would ensure they would be immune to the effects of age and disease, grant them the ability to disperse the energy to aid others, and awaken sapience.

  15. Nightwings are a common nuisance across #Matea. At rest, they resemble a loose ball of hair, but they also have a pair of leathery wings hidden behind the fur. Nocturnal creatures, they like to feed on stray fruits and small insects. But nightwings are timid beasts; if cornered, they can shake vigorously to emit a small dust cloud to aid their escape as the potential predator chokes briefly or is momentarily blinded.

  16. More an existential threat than a physical danger, Si’dae Leeches are a rare sight in #Matea. Clinging to the underside of the great Citadel, like barnacles on a ship, they fed upon residual magic from the engines. Occasionally, one would fall off. Due to the citadel’s unique circumstances, they are slightly out of phase with the rest of the world. They are incapable of hurting someone physically, but that doesn’t mean they should be taken lightly… (1/2)

  17. Though less impactful than Rakhada’s Folly, #Matea is beset by a number of natural disasters. Most major settlements are largely unaffected, though smaller villages and the wilds are altered. Many note and lament that without manasteel, their constructions, be they house, castle, bridge, or other, are more vulnerable than they have been in centuries past. A world council is established between nations to communicate and lend aid if needed.

    And still, time moves on.

  18. Though they said they would not meddle directly in mortal affairs, the Divinities appear briefly in a number of places around #Matea, taking over the bodies and minds of people close by, to act as their avatars. While wonderous, they do little else but praise the survivors of the Fall for their hard work, and remind people that their efforts can be just as rewarding as a divine gift. On parting, each avatar is gifted a gemstone medallion.

  19. Philin Rakhada, Gnomish engineer pioneers a new method of forging manasteel to form incredibly light gears by incorporating most of the elements of magic into its construction. The new version of manasteel is immediately incorporated into the new engines to lift the other Citadels from the ground, and Silwa’na’s engines are retrofitted on its next docking. “The Rakhada Process” supersedes the conventional manasteel design across #Matea.

  20. Nations around #Matea pass around the sample of manasteel for study, and start to discover more veins around the world, ready for mining.
An undocumented surge of power from the Elemental Plane of Fire causes a global warming and drought. Communities suffer. Word passes around from Wichi about the condition of Tortles and the tragic comes to pass as a genocide occurs to guarantee the survival of the rest of the world as the surge eventually subsides.

    And still, time moves on.

  21. Though the Goliaths’ strength of arms proved pivotal to the establishment of many settlements, they were still unhappy. When Mother asked what she could do, they mentioned an unease about the previous war, and if it could happen again to tear it all down. Consulting with the other Family members, they agreed that this would be the last time such a boon would be granted. Trading strength for defense, the newly made Tortles took to #Matea’s shores.

    And still, time moves on.
    #Lore24 14/4/24

  22. Once people had started to rebuild and work past the war, tieflings and aasimar alike start to mingle outside their communities, leading to the ancestors of Halflings, Half Orcs, and Half Elves to begin their lives.
Humans, with a penchant for aspirations beyond easy reach find their abilities limiting their work, so some petition the Divinities for the strength to create works in their names. Surprisingly, Brother answers, and Goliaths enter #Matea.

    And still, time moves on.
    #Lore24 13/4/24

  23. A famous poet once said that humanity was “the place where the fallen angel meets the rising ape”. That poet should revisit basic biology, as it is well documented that the first humans of #Matea came from the union of tiefling and aasimar. For what other method could create the capacity for evil, tempered by morality, and the capacity for good, tainted by selfishness?
But, humans were not the only creations to come of outside settlement…

  24. The Family separate their forces, to ensure that the war does not continue. While the rest set their charges up for a chance of a good life, Sister tricks the devils under her command; forcing them to settle not far from the lingering remnants of the Great Rift where she and Maag tore the boundary asunder, as a reminder.
Still, separated from their respective planes, each adapt to the energies of #Matea, creating Tieflings and Aasimar from their legacy.

    And still, time moves on.
    #Lore24 11/4/24

  25. Boundaries weakened, the pathways to the Elemental Planes are forged, the Endless Asylum opens, and the first Tabaxi dreams themselves into existence with energy flowing from the Brightfields, inadvertently leaving the door open for the Eladrin and Fairy folk to walk alongside the extant people of #Matea
Meanwhile, Brother finally brings peace to the Family. Sister receives domains of worship to watch over, and the war ends. But, the armies remain.

    And still, time moves on.
    #Lore24 10/4/24

  26. In exchange for their servitude, a battalion of goblins receive the rituals from Sister to transmute their bodies and those of their descendants. No longer a byproduct of a rushed circumstance, the insect within gave way to the dragon, leading the first Kobolds to take their place on #Matea. Even within this splinter group, arguments continue. Some are dissatisfied with the deal, and want to return, while others feel they didn’t receive enough.

    And still, time moves on.
    #Lore24 7/4/24

  27. Overconfident, a family of Aarakocra taunts Sister, showing off their speed and aerial skills. Angered by the war, Sister uses her powers to curse them and their lineage, making the first Kenku to walk the grounds of #Matea.
Gnomish innovations progress as the accelerated generational passage asks more to ensure a legacy. Tula Blomwhith perfects the procedure to divide a Warforged soul, so it can forego the armoured shell, creating the first Plasmoid.

    And still, time moves on.
    #Lore24 5/4/24

  28. Desperate for purpose, and frustrated with not being heard, Sister tears open a hole in the planar boundary, connecting #Matea to Ta’terra, striking a deal with Maag for her assistance to fight against her family. The devils within would find a new home, their Mistress gaining a whole new plane to torment, and Sister would stand as the sole deity of their worship. As the army spread across the land, the family had no choice but to defend their creations.

    And still, time moves on.

  29. First came the Dwarves: union between spirit and land. Then, the Elves: those that aspired to soar with the currents. Then, the Gnomes: their creative spark at the cost of longevity. When the first Gnome passed, both Mother and Father were confused at the feelings they had over them. It’s said that when the Daughter came into being as an embodiment of what would be known as “sorrow”, rains covered the whole of #Matea for a month without halting.

    And still, time moves on.

  30. Considered the finest institute of arcane study and historical archivism on #Matea, the oceanic city of Gomun was governed and maintained by the dolphinfolk. Frustratingly, they would never tell if their kind were magically awakened, or naturally evolved, but their skills were unmatched, and their record keeping dates back to before the Family War. With magic failing, they remain equally silent on the state of their civilisation, refusing to talk or accept new students.
