Promotion of alternative social platforms policy
The Mastodon Network is where the public conversation is happening, and where people from all over the globe come to tell each other they should CW: photos of their cats. We know that many of our users may be active on other social media platforms; however, going forward, will no longer allow free promotion of specific social media platforms on Mastodon .
What is a violation of this policy?
At both the Toot level and the account level, we will remove any free promotion of prohibited 3rd-party social media platforms, such as linking out (i.e. using URLs) to any of the below platforms on Twitter, or providing your handle without a URL:

- Myspace, Neopets, Orkut, Gaia Online, Final Fantasy XIV, Pleroma, Vine, Xanga, Livejournal, Misskey, IRC,
What happens if you violate this policy?
If violations of this policy are an isolated incident or first offense, we may take a number of actions ranging from requiring deletion of one or more Toots to requiring you to write a heartfelt apology to John Mastodon. Any subsequent offenses will result in permanent removal from the Mastodon Network. -
When I'm looking at a list of people I could follow, accounts with blue checks catch my eye even though I know they have no meaning.
