okay fine I have an unironic #mastodev #mastodev2 question. is there a staging server somewhere we could point a test instance at to see if the rebuild of our instance would do federation correctly? we want to be nice and not creep people out (and waste resources) by poking live instances with a test server.

@dusoft Good to hear it's only a mislabeling thing!
I think Mastodon don't consider it a bug because the habit of calling "GIF" anything that moves begun at Twitter many years ago.
Labeling actual mp4 videos as "gifs" may just be a remnant of an imitation of that bad habit.
