#newguitarday #Fender #CustomShop #Masterbuilt Jazzmaster by Dale Wilson.
My first masterbuilt. Got it by chance. My guitar buddy ordered that one years ago (the Dale Wilson list is closed since 4 years!) and didn't jive with it. I had the possibility to check it out at band practice and at home. Delivers. Hard. So I pulled the trigger to grab that guitar.Needed another guitar like another hole in my head. Oh well. Let's find one to sell...

Success! My DIY temperature controller is running the Masterbuilt electric smoker.
The controller uses a PID temp controller and a solid state relay to turn on or off power to the smoker. It also has it's own thermocouple to measure the temp.
Still need to fine tune the PID settings and decide if/how I want to permanently mount the new thermocouple in the smoker.
Didn't have to rewire the smoker. I can 'hot-wire' the low-voltage control wires so the smoker is always on. That way the DIY Controller manages the operation.
The push buttons on the original factory control unit failed after about 1 3/4 years of use. The replacement unit had a total failure after 4 months. Very frustrating. So no recommendation for the #Masterbuilt brand from me.

OK. Brisket is in the oven and is finishing cooking.
New #Masterbuilt #Smoker controller ordered from Amazon. $25, so price is OK. It should be plug-n-play.
Alternate solution is a home-built controller. There are a couple of designs out there.
But first I'll dissect the failed controller and see if new external control buttons may fix the problem. I miss Radio Shack when they had electrical part.

My f***ing #Masterbuilt smoker electronics just died. 🤬 It's less than 2 yrs old.
The brisket was at 182F so it can easily be moved into the oven. So it's easy to rescue.
But DAMN!

#Grilling burgers for the first time on the new grill. I’ve got hickory wood in with the charcoal so whenever this thing is on I’ve got charcoal and wood flavors. I LOVE this thing!

#Grilling chicken on my #Masterbuilt Gravity 560 today. Decided to throw some hickory chunks in the ash bucket so I could start experimenting with #smoking things. The hickory chunks definitely burned however I didn’t see much smoke. I’m assuming that’s because I’m running the grill at 400° to grill the chicken instead of, say, 225° to smoke a pork butt.
That being said, the hickory burned, so that’s good. Next step is to fire the grill up and smoke something quick and easy (stuffed mushrooms maybe?) and see how it goes there.
I baked cookies today too.
And I wonder why I’m overweight….
