  6. Went for a walk on #Marsden moor (March Haigh/Eastergate for anyone interested) in the glorious sunshine before we possibly get snowed in.

There was beautiful but impossible to photograph mist in the hills but we still got to see some fun things: a frozen puddle that looked (to me) like a cartoon fish skeleton and down towards the canal, a kingfisher. It was a brave bird - let us get surprisingly close compared to normal - and didn't seem too perturbed by Rosey or even the cat in a nearby tree!

  8. Walked along the canal to the jazz festival in a neighbouring village. Came across a neighbour's lost chicken on the way home and spent an hour chasing it through woodland. Living here is fun.

  12. A lack of spoons this week (which resulted in a sneak attack by brain weasels) has rendered me read-only on here when I've checked in. It also ruined our weekend plans (a cycling trip). Boo.

We did though get out for a walk today: a 14km loop around Marsden Moor. The route was mostly new/new-ish to us but made use of the Pennine Way and other well-worn trails (Packhorse, Standedge) so was decent underfoot and easy to navigate. And despite the clouds, it stayed dry too.

  13. We're at the inaugural #Marsden Americana & Bluegrass Festival. We've seen Cara Luft and Golden Shoals so far, with Jaywalkers and the Jake Blount trio still to come.

Luft was fab, though it would be nice if she left some charisma for the rest of us rather than hogging it all 😆

And the Golden Shoals were toe-tappingly amazing. Check out open.spotify.com/track/3ULC7bd

Luft is now running a singing harmonies workshop but as I DO NOT sing, I'm chilling with the ducks by the river instead. Lovely day.

  14. Listening to the BBC 6 Music now and the guy running this place has a civic manifesto I would like to subscribe too.
    Culture for all! :catjam:

  15. Joined the Marsden Walkers are Welcome group for their Friday evening wind down walk.

They took us on a lovely route on some paths I hadn't explored before - and there were some big hairy cows with little fluffy cows 😍

A lovely walk, on a lovely evening.

We walked to and from #Marsden from Slaithwaite on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal too. It's simply gorgeous at this time of year: all greenery and rolling hills.

  16. Walked over to the #Marsden Cuckoo Festival. Out over the hills, back along the canal for a 10mile round trip.

Saw a few different bands (folk/brass/drum) and Morris groups, then the procession through the village.

We couldn't stay for long as it had taken us longer than planned to walk there - like us, all our neighbours on the route are coming out of hibernation so we had to keep stopping to chat. It took near 45mins to walk half a mile 🤣

  17. This morning, we went for a walk on #Marsden Moor in the #ColneValley (#Yorkshire).

There was a battle between rain clouds and sunshine the whole way around which made for dramatic skies, but thankfully the rain held off.

Plus, I got my fingers licked and nibbled by a very friendly sheep.

  18. We've not enjoyed enough summer evenings this year - first, I was working lots of evenings, then it RAINED. But better than never.

We only had time for a short walk: 4 miles/6km up the Wessenden valley from #Marsden - the northern tip of the #peakdistrict . Out along the ridge, back along the #PennineWay.

First pic the way out, then the other one the on the way back as the sun started to set. Gorgeous evening.

  19. In his latest ramble, Norky takes us to green and pleasant Marsden, home to two once thriving woollen mills and a famous cuckoo. [If you're reading this and from Marsden, he's hoping you have an excellent sense of humour!]

  20. Next #moor #arson above #marsden. Funny how well planned these locations are, and always burning heather...

  21. Looking towards Pule Hill, part of #Marsden Moor, at twilight this evening.
