  1. Maronites are a Syriac Christian ethnoreligious group primarily found in Lebanon, tracing their origins to Saint Maron, a 4th-century hermit.

The Maronite Church has a rich history marked by resilience against invasions and a strong cultural identity, often linked to the mountainous regions of Lebanon.

The community has maintained its traditions and liturgy, which includes prayers in Aramaic, reflecting their ancient roots.

  2. Meanwhile, a #Maronite nun in #Lebanon named Hindiyya al-Ujaymi (d. 1798) claimed to have religious visions of Jesus and Mary, and founded a religious order in 1750 dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was repeatedly investigated for heresy, but won over some critics. But her order was dissolved by the pope's order in 1779, her writings were banned, and she was kept locked up in a convent until she died. She's still a controversial figure.
