In a curious case of recycling, the opening few minutes of this film is exactly like “Calling Philo Vance” (1940)—a spy getting caught in a European country, deported on a cargo ship, ordered returned for further trial before escaping and jumping into New York harbor.
The stories are completely different after that and the opening is pretty much irrelevant to the later story in both cases.
