  1. Update 5th February

The network has gradually stabilised over the past few weeks, with network load still elevated but not unexpected from such a large change in scale. This is generally caused by replication traffic being moved around by fewer nodes, so individual nodes are seeing more usage compared to previous.

  2. Update 22 Jan

Over the last week, the network has experienced significant contraction and churn after the secession of emission payments. This was expected, with nodes running large scale farming operations and modified code suddenly being pulled from the network. Due to the sudden drop, the replication processes in nodes are triggering, causing a spike in network traffic.

  3. Update 18 December

for the final dev blog of the year we revisit our goals and provide a brief run down on what we’ve achieved. There are still two releases coming ahead of Christmas- and there's a refreshed Autonomi website - autonomi.com.

  4. Update 11 Dec
We are now on the final stretch of the end of year missions. There are three important aspects that are worth mentioning:

    - New node release. Node operators must update by 16 Dec.
    - A Merkle element is included in the new release for 95% reduced fees.
    - Next week will be the final dev blog and company update of the year.

  5. Update 4 Dec

Alongside the continuing dialogue concerning emissions, there have been some questions raised concerning the automatic node upgrade work stream that’s currently underway. As we hope you already appreciate, the team are aiming to get to a stage, as soon as is feasible, where MaidSafe is no longer having to do upgrades (automatic or otherwise).

  6. Update 30 October

Work is continuing rapidly on several fronts, first and foremost investigating the cause of download failures reported by the community.

We've successfully implemented paymaster for uploads in Dave (GUI front end).

Plus, we’re making good progress with the Merkle tree transaction verification (a.k.a. gas fees minimisation) integration.

And there's a new video from Jim

  7. Update

This week we’ve been finalising plans to polish several network features to make them business-ready, including allowing people to hold ANT through paymasters without needing separate ETH for gas, and enabling devs to code their apps in such a way that the upload fees can be funded for the user — so plenty of flexibility for different business models. We’re including paymasters within Dave, to prove the solution out.

  8. Update 09 October

Lots going on behind the scenes, with the team laser-focused on reducing gas fees for uploads as far as we possibly can. We’re pursuing some promising ideas and have started coding them up, but obviously they will need thorough testing before they’re ready to go live.

  9. Update 11 September

This week we’ve continued our focus on producing something fun for you all to play with, both cos you’re ace and also to raise the profile of the project as the Impossible Futures competition reaches its conclusion.

Our streaming video proof-of-concept is nearing completion, with plans to release a client update including streaming and several CLI improvements shortly.

  10. Update 4 September

We've pushed the latest release of Autonomi yesterday featuring significant enhancements to upload and download functionality and more.

There's also a vdiseo interview with developer Traktion who chats about the immutable blog platform IMIM and AntTP, the bridge that lets any developer build on Autonomi using tools they already know.

  11. Update 28 Aug

It’s all action in the ant hill and we should have new releases of the client and Dave (GUI front end) ready next week. The former will allow for streaming uploads and partial streaming of downloads.

  13. Update 14 August

The team has done a lot more work on streaming self-encryption to handle very large files with great results so far.

We’re currently doing a deep dive into network data types and client constructed data types and looking to see what we can unify and simplify to improve the developer experience.

Network testing is ongoing with the recent work to ensure that all nodes are behaving.

    #autonomi #maidsafe #decentralized #decentralization

  14. Update 7 August

Testing and monitoring continues apace and the good news is the network seems more stable. Uploads and downloads are working, and we can’t find any data loss. App developers are reporting a better experience overall although there are still some questions around scratchpads and pointers that we’re looking into.

  20. Update 23 November

The most important news this week is the winding down of the Bittrex exchange. Anyone who has MAID on #Bittrex needs to take it off the exchange sooner rather than later.

Other news is that the latest testnet seems to have solved some problems and unearthed others in a one-step-forward-one-step-back kinda style.

  21. Byzantine fault tolerance, based on the Byzantine Generals problem, is a must for decentralised networks where nodes need to come to agreement even if some are malicious and messaging unreliable.

The week we dig into BFT, BFT broadcast protocols - and what all that means in real life.

  22. Update 21 April, 2022

Last week we noted that Digital Bearer Certificates (DBCs) have been around for quite some time but have failed to gain traction as a basis for digital cash. In part this is because they required some sort of centralised governance.

We believe that with #SafeNetwork’s unique architecture, DBCs will finally live up to their potential.

  23. Safe Network Update 31 March 2022

Today we’re pleased to throw open the gates of the DBC Playground.

Lucky Alice has 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 freshly minted tokens and she’s generously agreed to give 100,000 to Bob. So Bob gives Alice his public key, and Alice generates a DBC just for him.

You can recreate this scenario (and possibly some more exciting variations) in the DBC Playground.

  25. Safe Network Update

DBCs have the potential to revolutionise online payments and simplify many aspects of the Safe Network economy.

This week we take a look at a way to hide DBC transactions from a mint - Pedersen commitments - and also a way to stop Pedersen commitments being gamed by bad actors - range proofs.

  26. Keeping 2018 SAFE and Solid

You may have noticed a recurring theme across the SAFE ecosystem this year. The conversation around the ownership of data is picking up pace.

Perhaps you were at SAFE DevCon 2018. Perhaps you’ve stumbled across a podcast discussing words such as #rdf and Socially Linked Data (or SOLID).

The word #solid is appearing more frequently in conversations — but why? And what does it mean for the #SAFENetwork?

  27. SAFE Crossroads Podcast #49, What's so Special about the SAFE Browser?

#MaidSafe just released a completely in-house version of the SAFE Browser with some very cutting-edge features. It's still rough-cut but it opens the door to some advanced development options as the #SAFENetwork matures toward readiness for launch.

Devs Gabriel Viganotti and Josh Wilson explain.

  28. POC applications for identity management and RDF data using #safenetwork

"On the clearnet a WebId is a URL that describes a person, organization, group, device, etc., and you can use this to authenticate on websites (via some complex server/certificate malarky).

"But as we have authentication and data already baked into the network, a #WebId is much simpler on SAFE, just being a piece of addressable data on the network "
