One of my failures (and it is mine, for pure lack of diplomacy and empathy) is not being able to win over the part of my family that sees me as an #apostate. They are #nationalist #luthren, and #zionist.

I've been fighting #islamophobia since I was young. I've been ostracized for it, I've been put out in the cold by those who are supposedly my family, I've been treated like an inferior.

In the end I wish I was more diplomatic. I wish I had made an honest attempt to reach them, but I failed.

Growing up in a #Luthren family, I thought #protestantism was a sort of democratic, secular kind of denomination.

Come to find out that the hatred for #Catholics is because it's an opposing denomination and not because of the papal state or it's brutal history.

I knew that their hatred and fear defined them when I said "I have aunties called Fatima" and received the reply "I will never have anything to do with them or trust them".
