  1. I sat in on an YouTube live stream workshop on chanting Psalm 95 for Lent from Paul, who runs Sing the Hours. It was impressive his knowledge and skill. singthehours.org/ #catholic #loth

  3. At sundown (coming soon!) we start the season of Advent. If you pray the Liturgy of the Hours, one of the first things we will pray in this new season is this Antiphon to the first Psalm of Evening Prayer:
“Proclaim the good news among the nations: Our God will come to save us.”

“Proclaim Good News” is all over the letters of St. Paul, but St. Paul is echoing OT language found especially in the 2nd half of Isaiah where the great victory of God is celebrated. God himself is the herald who proclaims good news, leads his people back from exile to their proper homeland. His word makes this happen. And the watchmen on the walls of the city hear the words of the Lord and repeat it with great joy.
So this is where we come in. We who observe advent are called to “proclaim good news among the nations”—each of us where we are right now scattered all over the world. We are like the watchmen on the walls of the city proclaiming: “Our God will come to save us.”

  4. Wenn der braune Zauber nationaler Sozialisten und die Realität aufeinandertreffen - oder:

"Der erste AfD-Bürgermeister bricht seine Wahlversprechen: statt kostenfreier Kitas werden die Gebühren um 60% erhöht".

  6. One of the hopes of Urban Monasticism is to invite mamy more people into monastic rhythms & practices. One of the key practices is the Divine Office. This liturgical practice is wonderful.

I've added something to help make Compline/Night prayer more accessible to many protestants. The addition of optional Kingdom Antiphons! These are closely related to our Marian Antiphons, and can be used in their place to conclude Compline.

  7. A line that resonated with me from yesterday's Office of Readings:

[Jesus] did away with the everlasting character of death so as to make death a thing of time, not of eternity.

  8. Just led our parish's first simple Vespers in known memory.

Starting with Lauds Mondays and Wednesdays and Vespers in Tuesdays and Thursdays during Lent.

We do solemn Vespers for some special feasts, but all fancy with worship aids, choir, preaching, and all that.

Trying it for Lent and seeing how to make year-round feasible.

  9. I didn't bring my ordo while traveling. I assume Daytime Prayer today uses Sunday, Week II. Can y'all confirm?

The book says today uses the Complementary Psalms unless it is a Sunday, but without clarifying what to use if it is a Sunday. 😃

UPDATE: It seems I read this totally wrong. Always use Complementary, but if falls on a Sunday, make the changes listed. If you have info to the contrary, let us know!

  10. The Neumz project is pretty impressive. I can't say I'm an often user, but I appreciate that it exists.

They announced a big partnership that was granted EU funding to preserve more chants, including the recording of the Divine Office from the Extraordinary Rite.
