Inspired by #DuPont's #Longwood Gardens, Doris (at 46) created Duke #Gardens, which included an #Italian #Courtyard, Elizabethan #KnotGarden, & #Persian #Rose #Garden.

In 2008, the Doris Duke #Foundation closed the #Gardens, saying,
"The #Jewel-like gardens will remain open until May 25, [then] #Dismantled.
...The day of Display Gardens is #Past.
