  1. The Corran Ferry, which carries travellers across Loch Linnhe south of Fort William and serves as a portal to so many remote and wonderful places. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/cor

  2. The less than obvious remains of the Old Fort, or Fort William, after which the town visible in the background is named. The fort was built in 1690 on the site of a wooden Cromwellian citadel. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/for

  4. In terms of drama, the stunning region of Lochaber in the western Scottish Highlands, is probably up there as having some of the finest landscapes I have come across in my travels around the UK.
It's often marketed as the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK' centered around Fort William at the foot of mighty Ben Nevis.
This view is looking west across Loch Eil towards Glenfinnan on the 'Road To The Isles'.

  5. The Corran ferry, which crosses Loch Linnhe south of Fort William and gives access to Morvern, Moidart and Ardnamurchan, waiting for customers at Nether Lochaber on the sort of wintry night that makes you long for summer. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/cor

  6. Inverlochy Castle near Fort William. Built from around 1280 it was overtaken by history not once, but twice: first by a Cromwellian citadel built in 1654 and then by a Scots baronial style Inverlochy Castle built not far away in 1863. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/for

  7. Glen Roy's "parallel roads", north of Roybridge in Lochaber. Long held in folklore to be hunting paths used by the Celtic warrior Fingal, they actually mark different shore lines of a vast ancient loch created by glacial ice. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/roy

  8. This former fishing boat, originally built in 1975 as the MV 'Dayspring' and later undergoing a name change to 'Golden Harvest', lies wrecked on the shores of the Scottish Highland's Loch Linnhe, near Fort William.
The boat ran ashore during a heavy storm on 8 December 2011 and that's where she has been ever since.
The 'Corpach Wreck', as it is known, makes for an arresting sight as it sits on loch's shingle beach against the backdrop of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
I have visited and taken photographs at this spot numerous times, but it has been a rare occasion indeed to be able to capture the 'Ben' cloud-free.
In fact, if you zoom in just to the right of the boat's mast, you can make out the mountain's final section of footpath as it zig-zags up to the summit at 1,345 metres (4,413 ft).

  13. Dave’s Pop-up Vegan Cafe

    📄 Example menu

This summer you can explore bonny Knoydart on the West Coast and not compromise on vegan treats with a fab vegan Saturday pop-up.

Dave’s changing menu features healthy packed Buddha bowls with falafel, bhajis or tempeh, cooked breakfast with homemade baked beans, cherry tomatoes, tempeh and sausages, sun-dried tomato flan and more. All the dishes are made from scratch and the salad is even grown locally and freshly harvested. Sweet treats include epic fruity cheesecakes, decadent biscoff brownies and cherry Bakewell tarts.

Note, the pop-up is only open on Saturdays, running until the end of September. If the sun is shining, take your meal out on the deck overlooking Loch Nevis. I’ve not visited yet, but I am planning my trip now!

  14. Dun Troddan Broch, one of two unusually well-preserved Iron Age brochs that stand south-east of Glenelg in Lochaber. Like the other 500 or so brochs found mainly in the north and west of Scotland, it was built some 2,000 years ago. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/gle

  18. Amazing double rainbow tonight in #Lochaber. We get a lot of rainbows here, but I think this is the best I’ve seen in the 7 years we’ve lived here. #Passivhaus #EnerPHit looking sharp 👌

  19. Missed #ThrowbackThursday so this will have to be Throwback Thaturday.

Have been scanning a lot of old slides recently, the ones from 1983 will be celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, so will spam a few of them here.

January 1983, a few days at the Lairig Leacach bothy above Spean Bridge. We were snowed in for a couple of days, hence the young bored male pyromaniac tendencies. But we did do some walking.
