In the UK, soccer is totemic. It's assumed everyone is a fan and its almost unpatriotic to be not interested.
The women's team getting to the World Cup final is the first time England has been in the final for many years. (66! we won)
No Royal went. No member of the government went. And best of all the President of the English Football Association, Prince William, did not go. (The issue is, they would have for the men's team.)
