  18. New word for today:

Löe /loe/ (the diacritic is just to show it is not a diphthong).

Löe - noun ‘the known Universe’. It is the gnomic aspect of the verb lö- ‘to be, exist’ and so the meaning of Löe is ‘that which exists’.

Lö- is the existential form of ‘to be’ and is fairly regular (except that it’s infinitive form is lüo (dissimilation of older ‘löo’)). The predicative form of ‘be’ had different roots for different aspects and tenses.

  19. Another word, this time a verb! The Proto-PQL root ‘nek’ gives the basic verb:

L - ‘nec-‘ (neco inf.; nece gno.; nenca pres. enéci pst. necava perf., etc)

P - ‘neged’ - the -ed suffix comes from the older gerund and active participle suffixes. This form is the “verbnoun” (as found in Welsh) and the stem is neg- to which pronominal suffixes can be added: negan ‘I see’, negar ‘we see’, nêg ‘he/she/it sees’; negsin ‘I saw’, negsir ‘we saw’.

  20. Words for “water” today:

    From the Proto-PQL ‘awā’ “water”:

L: ‘öa’ /oɑ/ classical pronunciation /oa/ later pronunciation. The plural form is ‘öat’ and the dual is ‘öan’ (though the dual is unlikely to be used).

P: ‘aw’ /aʊ ~ aw/; the plural can be either ‘awed’ /ˈa.wɛd/ by analogy with other geographical features, or it can be ‘ewidh’ /ˈɛ.wɪð/ by the very productive -idh suffix which also causes i-affection.
