Comrades, stop playing ‘normal’
by Maarten Steenhagen#CovidIsNotOver #LeftistsForPrecautions
"eugenics requires mass support to succeed. Really, socialists shouldn’t be giving it that support! And yet, here we are…"

Rethinking 'Back to Normal' in the Pandemicine
Organizers of events need to take COVID precautions into account and make clear their provisions for safer access, disability solidarity, and community health & safety.

This week I responded to two event announcements from groups I've been involved with, and asked what their covid precautions for the event were going to be, and sent them information about why there should be precautions and what those might look like. In both cases the reponses were positive (though not yet definite--going to be discussed at next organizing meetings).
We can push our comrades to do better.

CW: covid, disability justice, ableism
You Are Not Entitled To Our Deaths, by Mia Mingus
#CovidIsNotOver
#DisabilitySolidarity
#LeftistsForPrecautions"Pandemics, climate change, pollution and toxins have tilted the scales and upped the ante that disability is our collective future.... Individual safety by itself is a myth. There is no individual safety without collective safety and collective safety requires that no one is safe unless everyone is safe."

Ableism Is Oppression. We Need Disability Justice.
by Mecca Monarch,Truthout
#LeftistsForPrecautions
#CovidIsNotOver"Shifting the focus from the individual to the many oppressive forces against us is at the heart of disability justice, an ongoing activist legacy that we have at our disposal for our collective survival."
"Practice disability justice however you can, whatever chance you get. This is our collective lifeline, whether you’re disabled or not."

Let them Eat Plague!
#LeftistsForPrecautions
#CovidIsNotOver"Not only have [experts] failed [to convey truth and give guidance] they have engaged in an active disinformation campaign dedicated to making the pandemic “disappear”. This has not been the result of a classic caricature of conspiracy... What we’re actually witnessing is the quiet collusion of class interest.

Why Has the Left Deprioritized COVID?
by Raia Small#LeftistsForPrecautions
#CovidIsNotOver"We’ve seen the triumph of a capitalist ideology that tells us that if we get sick, we should continue to work, and if we die or become disabled, it’s our own fault. To challenge the ruling class who have made record profits over the last two years and the political parties who manage affairs for them, we need to organize collective action that builds bridges"

Don’t look away from the implicit eugenics of “living with COVID”
#LeftistsForPrecautions
#CovidIsNotOver'“Collective responsibility” poses an ideological threat to the Late Capitalist order; it had to be seen as a drastic temporary measure....being a leftist means to carve out values and principles of intersectional solidarity against social injustices—against the common current....Organized action on the Left is both a moral imperative and our only hope.'

"The fascistic core of health supremacism is the idea that those who are healthy are somehow ‘better’ people, and that society may and must protect their interests and flourishing (rather than [that of] members of society at large)"

#CovidIsNotOver"In Part 2 of this two-part series, we speak to a few people engaged in organizing and political education projects about their experiences trying to incorporate covid protections into their existing organizing work, wins and losses they've encountered, and why it's so important for the left to take covid seriously, even as the public health emergency comes to a close."

Abled-Bodied Leftists Cannot Abandon Disabled Solidarity to “Move On” From COVID
#LeftistsForPrecautions
#CovidIsNotOver"It’s been wild watching people who are ostensibly leftist say, 'We’re following the CDC guidelines,' and drop masking, rapid testing and other safety requirements. Two years or more of rioting in the streets and suddenly, we’re doing what the government says we should do? One minute, we were masking; the next minute, 'you do you.'"
