After a long while finally got back to some gaming. Tried Neva. After all the driver drama it runs smooth as butter. And it is very beautiful. I wish they would have given some wallpapers as goodies with it. However, storywise and mechanically I'll probably like Gris better. Why should every jump be three button taps? And platforming accessibility option didn't seem to do much. About story: lets see, what comes next.

There is something truly good and soulful in Stardew Valley. No game will ever be everyone cup of tea, but Stardew Valley can occasionally give me a very special, very true kind of comfort.

Finished Cabernet, a a storytelling indie game set in end of the 19th century in some undisclosed Slavic country. Loved the atmosphere, music and stories, but, gosh, it is rough around the edges. For someone who has never played any Silent Hill and is not even particularly planing to do it... this winter I have quite a Silent Hill's music mood. Lazy bastards Tidal hasn't bothered to put in original songs with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's vocals, but with some effort quite a bunch of covers can be found. Friend put in an effort and reinstalled my gaming PC to #Linux. Some things are working well, som things are weird, one or two things are outright broken. Overall I feel positively giddy though. I've been Windows girly since 3.11, I genuinely liked it for a long time, and I've grown so, so tired of evergrowing surveillance and its hubristic insistance that it knows best what I need. The people from Linux side can be hubristicly insistent too, but software is much, much less so.

Finished #Wytchwood . Small game, conveniently splits into 3 afterwork evenings. Macabre elements required me a bit getting used to, but afterwards I found it rather comfy. Apart from the way how young women are drawn, really liked the visual style. Can get grindy, if you want to keep large reserves for complex spells.

Generally probably a hit or miss, but me personally – really enjoyed it and wished it be a bit longer.

Two years later thanks to my brother #TalesFromModMC is back. We have new modpack (All The Mods 10), notably newer base Minecraft and tricky sibling dynamics. My sister wants challenge, I want to build my stuff in peace without dying and my brother provides me additional resources sometimes to even out things. Says he is funding research that way. He jokingly asked me to describe planned results precisely and I answered that fundamental research is always full of suprises. #LaumaDatorspēlēs

Tried Crypt Custodian for couple evenings. Pretty. Atmospheric. With cats!!! And, yeah, I'l have to accept that despite several accessibility options it is not for me. There is a certain type of learning the enemy patterns that doesn't work for me, not if it happens in too many instances.

Bought Cat Quest 3 and sunk 6 hours in it in the first evening. I love that ridiculous bullshit wholeheartedly. Yeah, there are some differences compared to first two (lets be honest, first two are very, very similar) and it might not work for everyone, but for my liking... they have kept the right parts.

Finished Beacon Pines. Really enjoyed how the game approached choices with consequences, would love to see it in more games. To be fair, a larger game with larger decision tree would need more elaborate reminder system on what happened in which branch.

Also, I felt that this decision tree approach really helped to shape the horror-ish vibe of the story while keeping the main plot less tragic. For me personally, that is a major bonus.

My latest #HaterReviewsMadeMeBuyIt entry and obsession is The Thaumaturge – an alt-history RPG set mostly in Warsaw in 1905. As someone from Baltics I enjoy deeply the competently executed Warsaw setup, the plausible Polish names, the sense of history around. I'm ⅓ in, will see how the rest holds. Game has some flaws, but I love the writing. Though, I haven't found the "demonic gayness" yet, only couple passing references to a very human gayness. #LaumaDatorspēlēs #IndieGames #TheThaumaturge 🧵

Wavetale is not a big game, I expect to finish it in 2-3 evenings. Music is pleasant, I like the goofy animated avatars. But for me on a highly subjective level maybe the most important is the vibe, that no matter the apocalypse, people will continue to love their closest and care for them. And in these times? Yes, I need that vibe, all of it.

#DiluvianWinds has lots of UI annoyances, almost 0 story and strong vibe that a large DLC is missing. And yet... somehow... I absolutely loved it and it gave me the "hush, hush, it's okay" feeling I desperately needed. Yeah, I don't know how. Music is very apt tho. I have no clue to whom I could recommend it or anyone at all. And yet it goes stright to my comfort food tag in my gog library. I'm glad I found it. #LaumaDatorspēlēs #IndieGames

Maybe I should replay Bastion again. That one first short game that made Supergiant Games known. It is not too long to invest in replaying, sad, yet hopeful, and the music is so incredibly fitting. Beautiful thingie and somehow feels, idk, what I need right now.

BTW, Miracle of Sound wrote an incredibly nice song inspired by Bastion, it is called Calamity, but it can act as spoiler for game.

Started shotgunning Horizon: Forbidden West. In first 40 minutes (it is a long game) we discovered a plan from the times before to collect billionaires in a spaceship and sent them to Sirius. Spaceship blew up.

I did not expect to learn that #Amerzone is going to have a remake. I thought it was too little known, too niche. Fingers crossed the remake will be any good. Original was very on the short side, there is a room for expansion, if it is done honoring the source. Sokal's games used to be a big thing for me once.

#BookOfHours have everything in it to develop not excessively large, but very devoted cult following. It is weird, obtuse, clearly not everyone's cup of tea, but also incredibly charming, atmospheric and addictive, if you are that kind of person. The second playthrough I enjoy notably more than first - both because of quality of life improvements, but also because I just like understanding what's going on and how things generally work. Ok, sižets vēl aizvien diezgan stipri ir "novāc šo atslēgas cilvēku, novāc nākamo", bet vismaz pa vidu Stiltona misija iedod kādu pārmaiņu.

Savā #Dishonored2 spēlējumā pabeidzu Institūtu un tuvākajās dienās varēšu ķerties pie Jindosh muižas. Ļoti jūt visādus uzlabojumus sargu intelektā, salīdzinot ar pirmo spēli - kāds pamana un sapanikojas, ka durvis, kam bija jābūt ciet, ir vaļā, kāds nāk pētīt, kur palicis biedrs, kam te bija jāsargā. Ar tādiem uzmanīgiem pretiniekiem ar lavīšanās pieeju daudz interesantāk spēlēt, vairāk veidu, kā aizvilināt neceļos.

Sāku spēlēt Hercule Poirot: The First Cases. Kopumā labi. Patīk tā prāta karšu mehānika detektīvsakarību atklāšanai. Nu, pāris sakarības bija dīvainas, bet nu kurā point'n'click tā negadās. Drusku mulstu par tērpiem un domāto vēstures periodu - tiek runāts par Karu kā pagājušu notikumu, tā ka varētu būt 20-30-tie gadi, un daži tērpi ir uz to pusi, bet daži, šķiet, citē 19.gs. beigas, un priekš sabiedrības krējuma tas mulsina. #LaumaDatorspēlēs #Poirot

Sagribējās ko jauku un pazīstamu piektdienas vakarā. Izvilku no spēļotēkas Dex, mazo 2015. gada Cyberpunk 2077 priekštecīti. Ar kontrolieri izrādās drusku grūtāk, bet vēl aiz vien patīk. Grafika ir pietiekami pikseļota, lai nenovecotu. Tikai tas, kā tur runā par vispārējo AI šodienas acīm... jūtas ērmīgi. Jo tur to dara tādas klasiskas kiberpanka fantāzijas veidā. #LaumaDatorspēlēs

Runājoties ar SO, izdevās noformulēt, kapēc esmu tik aizdomīga pret spēlēm, kas reklamējas ar "meaningful choices" - reti tās izvēles ir līdzvērtīgas, daudz biežāk sanāk tā, ka nesaprasta, neveikla izvēle kādu gabaliņu satura padara nepieejamu vai iedod skumjāku iznākumu. Katram savs, bet man skumju un tizlu ierobežojumu pietiek jau īstajā dzīvē, dabūt to arī savā eskeipismā ir par daudz.

Es visu mūžu esmu radusi un pieradusi spēlēt tikai attiecīgajā brīdī vecas, vai vismaz jau krietnu laiku iznākušas spēles.
