BONUS!
Café Tacuba's "Ojalá Que Llueva Café" is a cover of Juan Luis Guerra's monster hit.
so here's a live rendition of the original by the one and only Juan Luis Guerra.
and this is a loving shout out to La República (as we call them en La Isla) and #Dominiquidon
-
so is it #Mastodon or #Google #Youtube blocking playing of their videos on our instance?
i'd like to understand what's the dynamic here because it seems then that we should be using anything but Youtube?
anyhoo, let me test this invidious link to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' Matador

on my last spoon so am giving it all to my favorite rock band of all time --in any language:
CAFÉ TACUBA
was in grad school, running up & down Manhattan teaching Spanish as an adjunct when RE came out in 1994.
don't know how to explain it other than it was LIFE ALTERING.
the things René, Memem and the Café Tacuba crew do with music is... it's like hearing 450 years de nuestras Historias condensed at 3min intervals.

when i used to teach Spanish i used songs in any way i could because, we can learn a lot about accents & inflections with songs.
Fito Páez' ‘El Amor Después Del Amor’ comes in at #22 and this album is a cátedra in exactly that.
i feel Páez is the first who exploits his very argentino accent to create the inflections that make folk American soul so distinct and are so hard to replicate as an hispanoparlante.

someone mentioned MOLOTOV's ¿Dónde jugarán las niñas? when i mentioned Maná.
well, yeah, it's a parody and i don't have enough spoons to explain other than Maná were considered too soft to be true rock.
but who gives a shit.
¿Dónde jugarán los niñas? is the name of Molotov's album, so am going with "¿Porqué no te haces para allá?... al más allá" because it's the most Beastie Boys by way of Cypress Hill joint

i had to stop and plunder my real life CD collection because i knew there was someone from Brazil that this list was missing and sure enough, the father of samba rock himself:
🗣️ JORGE BEN JOR
and rather topically, this is a #Labor #Union #Strike song.
so in solidarity with #UAW #SAGAFTRA #WGA #AFLCIO here's Jorge Ben Jor's W/Brasil (Chama O Síndico)

moving on to your new favorite ska band, LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS and their monster hit, MATADOR
i dare you to listen to this song while riding your bike or on a treadmill.
i fucking dare you 😜

BTW
Rolling Stone also left out LA LEY and that should be absofuckinglutely illegal. they are one of the most influential Chilean musical acts of the 20th century, not just #RockLatino
President Boric should declare Beto Cuevas' voice a national treasure.
here's the MTV Unplugged version of their biggest hit EL DUELO
-
i do not know why i always thought Echeverri was chilena but no, she and ATERCIOPELADOS are from Colombia, so here's some love for #Colombiadon with "Bolero Falaz".

seriously, Juanes is a one man cosplay of Maná.
here is Juanes, A Dios Le Pido.
tell me that doesn't sound like Maná's ¿Dónde jugarán los niños?

🗣️ FUCK YOU ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE!
¿Dónde jugarán los niños? is one of the most influential Latino Rock albums OF ALL TIME.
listen to the title song of this album and you'll see how there is no Juanes without Maná.

i want to make a correction to my original Rolling Stone rant:
i was expecting Puya's UNION which is actually their best album. i think Fundamental is their first one.
here's my fave Puya song: Sí Ajá
this song is absolute perfection; a true clinic on what FUSION of aesthetics should mean in any medium not just music.
