  10. Had another weird #dream about the place where I worked from the early naughties to the early-mid teens.

The place has now literally been closed down, sold, and has now become a High School (!?!?), but it still lives rent-free in my head.

In the dream, I was in the post-outsourcing hell season, and when I was going to leave for the day, they (facilities people who worked for the company I was outsourced to work for, which I used to be an employee of) told me I had to take my stuff with me, because they were renovating. I told them I had left my laptop on my desk (as I often did) and that I'd have to go back and get it. They said that I couldn't, but I talked my way out of it.

I immediately found myself going through a chemical maze with a hazmat suit on. Think of the Chernoybl TV series. Everything was scrapped and slathered with goopy paint thinner (?!?!?). I was in basement-looking somewhat nightmarish parts, getting totally lost (in a place I worked in for over a decade, lol), and finally found my way out to where things were already renovated, and it was totally opulent, Trump-tower looking shiz. The execs making more room for their profligacy, obviously.

After much time feeling lost, scrambling about, I finally find my desk in a not-yet-renovated, not-chemical-hell-looking part of the datacenter. So, I scoop up my laptop and books (?), and get out of there.

Guys, in reality, I left that place over a dozen years ago! And still, rent-free in my head.

You see, that place was one of those really stable shops where once you got a job there, you had a job for life, you enjoyed the respect of your peers and superiors, and you made great things.
Then in the mid-naughties, the very large company that owned us sold us. We were bought out by a consortium of #VultureCapitalists, who immediately wrote themselves a billion dollar check with our company's credit (debt), and outsourced the bulk of the I.T. workforce to a large douchebag tech company you all know, and if you have a gram of sense, hate.

This is just one small microcosm of what has happened in the U.S. (and to a lesser extent, the rest of the Western world) in the past 20 years.

  22. One of the best quotes that I have heard on 'unchecked and unbridled capitalism' comes from Rob Rosenthal, host of the SoundSchool podcast from @prx, and a podcaster I greatly respect and consider as a mentor.

In a recent episode where Rob spoke from the heart about #Spotify ruthlessly culling good shows and good people from its roster, he said:

"Unlimited growth is the logic of a cancer cell."

This line lives rent-free in my head.

  26. I've heard, on occasion an argument that can be paraphrased somewhat along the lines: "Regulations are a sneaky way of bringing socialism to a capitalistic economy."

    Yeah, you're right.

But do you realise what that also means?

It means socialism is the only thing that can keep unbridled capitalism in check.

And, if you paid any attention in school, you would know that unbridled anything is the very definition of cancer.

  30. A recent comment I read somewhere about #latestage and #endstage #capitalism got me wondering...

    What does post-capitalism look like?

I mean the #posttruth world has been a #dystopian nightmare and we are still reeling. Would post-capitalism also similarly be 'horrors beyond comprehension'?

Is there even such a thing as post-capitalism?
