  4. Lenovo Smart Motion Concept is a laptop stand that rotates to face you

That laptop with a display that rotates for use in either landscape or portrait mode is just one of the new concept devices Lenovo is showing off at IFA this week. The company is also showing working prototypes of a laptop stand that you never have to adjust because it does that for you.

  5. Laptop stand done. Happy with the result.

Far from perfect, there's plugged holes, woodstain blotches, warping and tearout, but it looks good enough, works really well and is a major upgrade from the plastic box.

Made from old sawmill scrap I recut on the table saw.

Great learning experience. There's a splined miter, dowels, lap joints and lots of edge glued planks.

I didn't buy anything to make this. Okay, I bought a piano hinge but didn't use it 😁

  6. Laptop stand test fit. Mechanism works satisfyingly well, really stable on all five settings. The keyboard fits nicely between the supports (hence the omitted fourth brace).

Unfortunately the rearmost plank decided to cup itself over night. Will see if it goes back in dryer weather, if not, oh well, doesn't really affect anything.

Couple details to sort, then slap on some 10 year old Ronseal from a can that sailed around with us most of the way :)

  7. Side table for the laptop stand is done. This will attach to the main thing when that is complete. But no reason to wait.

It's basically a low tunnel for routing a mouse cable front to back with space to move inside without snagging. On top, things can be put, like Norbärt the rail replacement stegosaurus driver (with Steggie) and Chrobärta, his favourite passenger, named after a Brazilian YouTuber 😁

Two walls keep them from falling off.

  8. Progress on the laptop stand, too. Got the folding mechanism sorted out. Gave up on not using metal, because I'm running out of patience on this project and we've got some other stuff going on.

Grabbed some threaded rod and done. Then marked where the slots need to go and carved them out.

Just some glueing and coating left to do. The side table is already in the garage with two coats of woodstain on.

Oh, and plug some wrong holes 😳
