  1. This visit we wanted to offer a bhandara. A bhandara is serving food to the needy as an offering to God or in thanks for good fortune. It is something that is at the core of many Indian religious traditions including #Hinduism, #Jainism, #Buddhism, and especially #Sikhism as #langar at gurudwaras. It is something @dohappybelove saw many times growing up and we wanted to make a small contribution to share our joy and happiness with others

  5. The Langar like all the activities in Gurudwaras is a volunteer run effort. People from all walks of life come together to do various chores in and outside the kitchen to make it possible. This is the best example of the ideal world. There is no hierarchy, no discrimination, there competition, no comparison. There is collaboration, joy, love, service and gratitude.

PS. You can volunteer at any Gurudwara.

  6. Recently an automatic roti making machine is added to the kitchen as a helping hand to the volunteers working in the kitchen.

Technology put to the best use. Service.

  9. Rotis in the making. So it's like an assembly line that happens. A group of people prepare the dough. Another group roll the rotis. While another group roasts them. And finally ghee is spread over the rotis.

The whole process is so well-coordinated and full of love.

  11. Do you also want to see the 'behind the scenes' of the langar being served? How the kitchen works? How is the langar cooked? What does the kitchen that feeds around 30,000 people in a day?

  12. Have you ever eaten at a 'langar' ??

If yes, do share your experience. And if not, find a Gurudwara nearby and go eat.
It's beyond just the food. It's service. It's humanity. It's love.

Sharing a few pictures of the afternoon langar at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
