  1. Conservative opposition to and ridicule of #LandAcknowledgments reveals far more than they intended. A #NativeAmerican commentator on where the practice falls far too short:

"I’m not ready to throw the practice of land acknowledgments out. The form is too small for what it carries; there’s no way to spell out four centuries of dispossession in two sentences. An acknowledgment that opens a conversation, that involves the tribe, that leads somewhere, is different. But the test isn’t in the words. It’s in what action comes after the words have been spoken."

  2. I just finished putting together my #LandAcknowledgement, which is also an action plan because of what I learned at the Native Governance Center (nativegov.org/news/beyond-land).

A quote by the Wishtoyo Chumash Foundation gives me hope that my actions might make a difference: “Any action we take has the potential to ripple out and affect so many others, through time, without us ever even being aware of it.” wishtoyo.org/first-nations-eco

The #LandAcknowledgment & Action Plan are at my website: corinalogan.com (scroll down). It will also go in my articles that use data from this population of grackles.

It took lots of learning to get to the point of having a finished statement. I share my process here in the hopes that it inspires you to do this as well!

My process...I read about #LandAcknowledgments & saw examples. I like the Native Governance Center's advice, so I followed their steps

  3. #Indigenous #leaders & #activists have #MixedFeelings about #LandAcknowledgments. While some say they are a waste of time, others are working to make the well-meaning but often empty speeches more useful. The #debate is more than a niche issue; the #ProsAndCons of land acknowledgments are the subject of #myriad mainstream media articles, social media posts and online videos.
