Italy’s ‘referendum weekend’ is at risk amid an expected low turnout.

But low public awareness and poor turnout projections threaten to sink them - a result the government may not mind, having urged abstention instead of a clear “No” vote.

Amid constant layoffs and instability, journalists have been unionizing their newsrooms in record numbers. A new study highlights what that looks like for women — and it produced some interesting insights that Nieman Lab has collated: "We get asked a lot in unionization drives, 'What can the union do to protect us, to stop a hedge fund from buying us, to stop the owners from simply deciding to shut down the publication?' And the answer we have to give people is nothing."

So... I could use the opinions of some folks with experience in #canadian #labourLaws and or #union experience.
Would it be expected to have to repay the employer for the cost of their medical benefits and insurance during a medical leave?
Example: Joe, permenant, full-time salaried union employee took a 4 month leave to battle cancer. Upon his return, he was garnished $2500 to repay the employer the cost of their benefits. The benefits are a part of Joe's contract, and the employer has *always* covered 100% of the cost (Joe has paid $0 over 10 years).
Does this sound on-the-level? Is this a normal, expected thing?

Can we cut funding to think tanks under weapons disarmament policy or something? It looks like Think Tanks might have been misclassified. Appropriately, some of them are better classified as Weapons of Mass destruction #LabourLaws
