  1. Still traveling slowly. Taken the local train from Kurashiki to Itosaki station, now changing trains there, and then continue with a local train on to Hiroshima.

Tell me, which is the fairest land!

Hopefully one of the five will answer!

  4. Can anyone beat me with a shop/museum roof that has more dogs?!
And are there 101 or more? ;)

  5. Part 14
    Mt. Washu

I do not know if it was the idea of the neighbours or the city officials but I could see the people living there taking care of the flowers.

  6. Part 13

The train line in the forest becomes a wonderful walkway through the neighbourhood with a lot of flowers!

  7. Part 12
    Mt. Washu

On my way down I followed what seems to be a former train line, which has been abandoned and is a nice walkway nowadays.
There is even a light at the end of the tree tunnel ;)

Last but not least the view of observation deck number 4 which is located more or less directly in line with the bridge on top of the tunnel.

On the other side of the mountain there is a boat racing track. The sport is quite popular in japan and of course you can also make bets

  11. Part 6
    Mt. Washu

After the nice lunchtime I had to sadly say good bye to Aya as I had still some walking to do, to get up to the top!
So I went higher and higher and the views where getting better and better!

  12. I just can only recommend to go outside of Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, etc. as a traveller.
You will meet nice locals, get tips for sights which you will not find on youtube, google maps, or the "things you have to do at XY"-posts or whatsoever!

This is the view out of the free (yes nothing to pay or consume) resting area 1 floor under the restaurant!

  13. At Observation Deck 2 I was approached by a nice, sympathetic and English-speaking Japanese lady.
She was travelling with her older neighbour & the chat led to a lunch together in the restaurant at the viewing platform.
As it turned out, she sews passionately and also has a small shop in Simotsui.

If you like handmade and unique items, you can find her here:

  14. The area around Kurashiki is known for textile production and is accordingly proud as you can see.
That is the entrance to the train- and bus station in Kojima and even the smoking area has the jeans design :D

  15. Part 5
    Mt. Washu

    Washu-san has 4 "official" spots:
Washusan Observation Deck 2 - Parking lot, a restaurant and a souvenir shop
    Washusan Observation Deck 1
Shoshusho - The Top of Mt. Washu
Azumaya Obervation Deck - On top of the tunnel which leads straight onto the Seto Ohashi Bridge

On bridge you have the highway on top and the trainlines running on the "lower" floor (see picture 2)

  16. Part 4
    Mt. Washu

If you go by car there is also a parking space close to the top of the hill or if you go by public transport you have to get up some stairs ;)

  17. Part 3
    Mt. Washu

The bus is slow which makes it great for me.
I like to take my time and maybe find new spots of the normal touristy tracks.

The job of the driver of the Loop Line seems to be safe from AI & automatic vehicles. The route is so narrow in places with only a few passing places that only one vehicle can pass at a time.
    The solution:
Experience and signal are given by horn, so that the other side is warned when you enter these areas.

  18. Part 2
    Mt. Washu

Riding a local bus will nearly always be the slowest public transport in Japan for some reasons:
    - a lot of stops
    - getting on and off takes its time, because you should not get up before the bus stops completely!
    - buses in the countryside often go just once every hour (so you should not miss them)
    Note to travellers:
If you travel with extra large suitcases, you might be in the way of everyone else in the bus (no luggage rack)!

  19. Part 1
    Mt. Washu

Mt. Washu is the mountain with a great view of the Seto Inland Sea and the Seto Ohashi Bridge.
It is located in the Seto Inland Sea National Park, which became Japan's first national park.
It has great viewpoints & is more hill than mountain.

Getting there by public transport is possible by train via JR Kojima Station + a healthy walk or you can use the Shimotsui Loop Bus.

  20. I finally caught the last rogue Pokémon on my travels in the Kurashiki/Okayama area!
Three are located directly in Kurashiki close to the city center, but number four is hanging out around Mount Washuzan with a fantastic view over the Seto Inland Sea and the Seto Ohashi Bridge.

  22. Getting closer to today's goal.
3rd line is my train: San-yo line to Mihara

God sake it is not the Limited Express (red kanji) which is now arriving with a 90 minute delay...

  23. #JP06 2006-04-13

Continuing along the main Shinkansen route, day 18 of my first Japan trip in 2006 brought me to Okayama, where I went to see the castle and Korakuen. Went to Kurashiki in the afternoon and stayed at a Ryokan (Japanese inn).

  24. I sewed this little roll-up pencil case from #tatami #heriRibbon I bought at #Kurashiki

I followed a tutorial by a Japanese lady here: youtu.be/hKmf8HRjF8o

I'm so happy with it. The only sad thing is that I've run out of ribbon. I must clearly try to get more.
Heri ribbon is a ribbon traditionally used to line Japanese tatami mat edges. I think the ribbon I chose is a work of art in itself, so I'm happy to have chosen a project that shows it off.

  25. The main attraction of Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture is the ‘Bikan District’, an old merchant quarter dating back to the Edo period, featuring wooden warehouses along a canal framed with weeping willows.
