CW: “The Great Flood” movie impression
I watched the #Kmovie #TheGreatFlood on #Netflix, but I didn’t like it very much. The first part is decent, gripping, and believable. It’s a “catastrophic” movie, so there is a lot of suspense.
At a certain point, a sort of temporal loop begins, with events repeated in different ways. This part is more confusing and less engaging.
So, in the end, what was real and what was imaginary? Why did that loop happen?P.S. The cute part of the movie is Kim Da-Mi. 😍

(Viki 12 1:00 eps)[!!CW!! Synopsis & non-spoilery review.]
A mechanic who has to keep up with her colleagues' drinking, but alcohol starts to interfere with her life. When she moves back to her small town, she meets her 1st love, who turned away from her years ago. He's now the town's doctor & an expert on alcohol dependency.
Unique because it recognizes drinking as a problem, it's mostly from a female perspective & it addresses the many health consequences of drinking. Also nice that it allows for imperfection & discusses things not typical in K-Drama.
1st 3 eps. are torture with horrible drinking scenes & stupid choices. A pretty predictable story, with crazy small-town yelling, screaming, chasing, & hitting.
It's a great cast, though, with wonderful acting (for the most part). It's impressive in its stand against the drinking culture.

Delivering chicken, playing video games, & practicing martial arts seems enough for Kim Woo Bin's character. One day he saves a Martial Arts Officer. He's asked to cover the officer's job while he recovers. His parole officer partner recommends that he becomes an official Martial Arts Officer.
Warning: the crimes depicted in the show are awful & may be triggering.
The fighting is amazing - great choreography. You will *hate* the bad guy. What's unique is that Kim Sung Kyun really brings compassion to the role of the parole officer & the fun-seeking fighter sees things from a fresh perspective.
In less than 2 hours, Kim Woo Bin provides us with wonderful character growth & a great bromance. It was also interesting to see how an unfamiliar area of the S. Korean penal system works.

Sleep
(2023 - Netflix movie 1:34)An interesting idea with great actors. The husband suddenly starts doing scary things during his sleep. After trying everything, the couple turns to a shaman to help.
As a horror film, it has an unexpected twist and does its job of making you uncomfortable, & providing thrills & suspense. But the behavior of several people would not be considered normal & there's not enough time to justify or explain. Unfortunately, the lackluster writing kept it from realizing its potential, but if you like horror, it's worth a watch for the acting.

Love Reset
(2023 - Viki Movie 1:59)On a Jung So Min quest - this movie was a box office success in Korea. A couple has grown to hate each other & are about to divorce. On the way to court, they are in a car accident which causes amnesia & they don't know each other any more.
This is comedy (not really a whole lot of romance) & both main leads are wonderful at the ridiculous OTT antics. Don't expect to like the main characters, but go for the comedy. It moves fast. The storyline could have been better. It lacks the char. dev that is really needed for the ending to make sense, but I still laughed & enjoyed myself.

The Most Ordinary Romance (Crazy Romance)
(2019 - Viki, 1 1:55 movie)I watched this because I did not like the characters that Gong Hyo Jin played in the other 3 dramas I've seen her in - they all came across as very annoying - and she's supposed to be one of the queens of romcom.
I actually liked her character in this movie. It's a story about 2 people dealing with failing relationships and falling in love while sharing their pain. Unfortunately, they both dealt with their pain by getting drunk a lot.
Good acting, but not a great story.

Are We in Love?
(2020 - Viki, Movie 1:47)Another role for Sung Hoon as a cold boss who falls for a timid female employee while they both suffer through many misunderstandings. The poor FL has a miserable life & doesn't feel worthy of anything good. It has a bit of magic that could have been really cute, but it fizzled out.
The thing that sticks out is ML's over-the-top anger at the beginning. Who knows where that came from? I've seen Sung Hoon do anger much better. It was so strong it felt out of place in a breezy cafe setting.
Better writing could have made this cute story idea much more watchable.

Midnight Runners
(2017 Viki, Movie 1:49)Great action movie! 2 police university students discover a crime that needs urgent attention & the regular police are too busy. They learn a lot through their efforts & mistakes as they struggle with some ethical questions. There is some comedy & a good bromance, but no romance. I'm glad they didn't try to add that in. That would have been too much for a movie. There are a lot of good fight scenes & training for fighting. I was impressed that the leads don't win every fight, so you don't know what will happen.
If you watch, make sure to watch through the first part of the credits, there's another scene that makes a perfect ending.
