From yesterday's #DogWalkingGeology, expanding clays in action!!! This green smectitic clay (saponite- nontronite?) intergrown with laumontite in an amygdale within recently-quarried basalt has got wet and expanded dramatically, fracturing the basalt around the amygdale. #Geology #Mineralogy #Kilfinichen #Mull #Paleogene 🤯 😊
