The third #Kabocha #南瓜 #かぼちゃ has been used for tempura - and we had too much as the children just ate udon noodles & fruit.

The pumpkin hunt continues - got a fourth green skinned one today - but for how much longer will culinary squash be sold once Halloween is over?

And a third #Kabocha #南瓜 #かぼちゃ purchased - found a medium and large at a local farm shop (where we’ve bought these before).

There’s a kabocha & thinly sliced beef recipe I’d like to eat again, but we can’t get the small spicy shishito green peppers here.

I think we got our second #Kabocha #南瓜 #かぼちゃ this season, from the local M&S in the culinary squash selection

October is pumpkin season in the UK, meaning loads of big decorative ones & a few edible squash in the shops. That makes it “Hunt for #Kabocha season”, where we try to find small green pumpkins like the ones sold in Japan to use for cooking. Usually M&S is a good bet, but none so far. We did find one at a PYO Farm (amongst dozens of colourful smaller ones, and hundreds of big orange/yellow/white ones) #南瓜 #かぼちゃ

I planted the seeds from a kabocha that we had for dinner and they grew into this magnificent specimen.

What's on my mind? The calories in kabocha.

I was wondering why every U.S. source list the calories of kabocha squash (https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/1963721/nutrients) as just 35 calories/100 g.

But every single source here in Japan (e.g. https://calorie.slism.jp/106048/) lists it much higher - about 91 calories/100 g.

Kabocha is kabocha. Why the discrepancy?

Gardening update! @alice_swaggen just sent me some progress on my #tomatillos and #kabocha #pumpkins. We've beenhaving a problem with the fruit turning yellow and rotting on the vine, but this big boi looks like he might hang around!

The tomatillo fruit are finally closing back up their paper lanterns to mature; getting excited now!
