I'm traveling home from a great #juliacon2026 in Mainz, Germany, where I presented the State of GeoDataFrames.jl. There is now direct URL support, extensions for many native Julia file drivers, metadata roundtripping---also on columns---and much more. Next developments would be to support lazy cloud optimized file formats. 🧵1/4

I've been missing out on the #JuliaCon2026 talks - any standout talks we should go back and check out? Also curious to hear if there's been some exciting new developments on #julialang compilation end.
The alphacomformers+jll integration and ones on makie+simulation looks cool!

There's a call for proposals for a workshop at #JuliaCon2026 in Mainz, Germany, on "Bringing Julia to the Computational Humanities and Social Sciences" and it sounds really very interesting!

But then you look at the ticket prices and you gasp! Even the "talks-only (no workshops) early bird individual ticket" is 570 EUR! The regular, standard, full-conference 5-Day Pass is a whopping 1249.50 EUR.
