I'm pretty sure most of the time brands love people calling generics by their name, but I'm guessing the "don't drink the Kool-Aid" phrase that developed after #Jonestown is one case in which Kool-Aid is upset about generic erasure.

@jonsagara The so-called 'Death Tapes" are so haunting and chilling. The audio reels were re-used so often during #Jonestown that when they frequently re-recorded on top of them, you could still hear the ghosts of previous recordings faintly playing in the background. 😔

Feinstein’s centrism dated to the earliest years of her #political career. Her elevation to the office of mayor came on the heels of upheaval, including the mass suicide at #Jonestown in Guyana — many followers of cult leader Jim Jones were from #SanFrancisco — & attacks by the New World Liberation Front terrorist group, which placed a bomb outside the bedroom window of Feinstein’s daughter. For a time, #Feinstein owned a handgun.

Every time people use “drinking the Koolade” to reference jumping on a bandwagon, I am squicked. I remember Jonestown. Many of those people were forced to drink the poisoned FlavorAde (not Koolade).
