On December 7, 2020, #armed #Trump supporters gathered outside #JocelynBenson’s home, yelling threats & repeating Trump's election lies. Benson: More than 78K Michiganders have voted early in-person
More than 1 million Michigan voters have cast an early ballot as of Monday morning in-person at a location, by mail or by dropbox. The number is 13% higher pre-Election Day turnout than in the 2020 presidential primary.
Of that number, more than 78,000 Michiganders have selected the new in-person, pre-Election Day voting option.
The Michigan presidential primary election is Tuesday.
“The more citizens hear about early voting as an option, the more they are likely to take advantage of it,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said at a news conference Monday at the state government office in Cadillac Place in Detroit.

Benson says clerks statewide are ready for early voting implementation
Clerks across the state are preparing for the implementation of new voting procedures that are part of Proposition 2, approved by Michigan voters in 2022.
Michigan voters now have the right to vote early in every statewide and federal election. In-person voting will be available for nine consecutive days prior to each election beginning on the second Saturday before the election and ending on the Sunday before the election.
The right of Michigan voters to sign up as a permanent absentee voter was also part of Proposition 2.
These will be the first three elections in our state where we will have nine days of early voting everywhere in our state,” said Benson. “That means for one full week and two weekends prior to an election, people can vote at the in-person voting location in their community.”
Ballots will be entered into machines, but will not be counted until after the polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Dems say new Michigan voting rights bills strengthen democracy
The state House in Michigan voted through a handful of bills aimed at addressing different elements of the voting process to ensure every eligible voter can participate in elections.
The bills address maintaining online voter applications, voting rights for military spouses, as well as eliminating certain parts of the state’s voting laws with the goal of allowing increased access to voters on Election Day.
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson issued a statement Wednesday after the House voted on the legislation, saying the bills strengthen democracy in the state.
“At a time when voting rights are under attack at the federal level and in other states, I’m proud that Michigan is a leader in protecting and strengthening our fundamental right to participate in elections,” said Benson, a Democrat. “These bills keep our polling sites accessible for everyone and ensure the continued security of our absentee voting system.

Democratic Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson was interviewed by United States Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith's office "for several hours" amid the criminal investigation into the scheme to reverse the results of the 2020 election, CNN's Zachary Cohen exclusively reported on Wednesday.
Benson's conversation with Smith's lieutenants "marks yet another recent meeting between prosecutors and officials from key battleground states that were targeted by former President Donald Trump and his allies as part of their bid to upend Joe Biden's legitimate victory in the 2020 presidential election," Cohen learned from people "familiar with the matter."
It also "came after her office complied with a subpoena from Smith late last year, turning over a broad swath of documents that included communications between Michigan election officials, former Trump lawyers, and individuals working for the former president's campaign," Cohen noted.
"Included in the documents provided to Smith's office," Cohen continued, "was an email from a local Michigan elections official reporting a voicemail they received from someone who identified themselves as a lawyer working for Trump's then-personal attorney Rudy Giuliani."
