  1. I just discovered these two guys. They talk about this totally incredible record ("What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye) with a mix of heartfelt admiration and deep musical insight.

If You're interested in how music that matters and lasts is created, with love and intention You HAVE TO watch this.

  2. Happy Funky Friday, Folks. We made it.

This is new to me and damn is it good. Somewhat in the vein of Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters, plus a horn section. Smokin' hot #jazz #funk from Japanese drummer and bandleader Akira Ishikawa. h/t to my buddy Manchild for sending this one my way, just what I needed.

  3. Great news for the vinyl #jazzheads. New Blue Note Tone Poet Audiophile albums for 2024.

Lou Donaldson's excellent 1968 album Midnight Creeper was in the first batch of new releases. This is one of my go-to late-60's jazz listens. Dr Lonnie cooks on "Bag Of Jewels."

    Lou Donaldson - sax
    Blue Mitchell - cornet
    Lonnie Smith - organ
    George Benson - guitar
    Idris Muhammad - drums

Cannonball adeptly navigated the evolving #jazz landscape through the 50s, 60s, and 70s, releasing a consistently relevant series of quality albums with top-notch guests and sidemen. #jazzheads

  5. @massimobiolcati Thanks. Going to try again next round. Tweetbot has been my app for the other site and I'm interested in seeing how it translates over here. Keep up the great work with your app. Glad to see you here, seems to be a lot of #jazzheads around.

  6. Donald Byrd tribute (2)

Contrast Byrd's work through the 1950's and 1960's with this track from his 1971 album Ethiopian Knights. The next year (1972), Byrd ventured into a more neo-funk, polished sound.

"The Emperor" (1971) is 15 minutes of straight-up, gritty, dirty funk.

  7. Happy Birthday to Jazz Organ legend Jimmy Smith (1925-2005). Often called the father of acid jazz, Smith's virtuoso improvisation technique on the Hammond B3 helped to popularize the electric organ as a jazz and blues instrument.

Root Down is a 1972 live album, recorded in North Hollywood, CA on February 8, 1972 at Jimmy Smith's supper club.

  8. @watty62 @mrcompletely @drummmerandy Well played, folks! Hats off to Andy for the Mose Allison bump. Nice chill vibe to that one. Hadn't heard the original of Young Man Blues on there. The Who version on Live At Leeds is a monster! "Something Else" seems to be a hit w/ the #jazzheads.

  9. Jazz 101

Looking for a good starting point for your jazz collection or new additions? These 5 albums had the biggest impact on me years ago when first getting heavily into #jazz. Grateful to a couple jazz mentors for the guidance.

Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue (1959)
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil (1966)
Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus (1956)
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage (1965)
Bill Evans Trio - Sunday At Village Vanguard (1961)

For fellow #jazzheads, what 5 albums would you list?
