Was up for a visit in early May and while things were looking better in town. there are huge parts of the forest that are just gone...will take decades to return to something like it was.

  5. Took the time to read the Jasper Wildfire Complex Municipal After-Action Review and my impression of the section addressing jurisdiction and authorities is that it is very even handed. It basically says the jurisdictional overlap created challenges that need clarifying. Yes, requests from the Alberta government were an issue but that was because of a lack of formal agreements to handle this kind of situation.

Overall it's an interesting read and not too long as these kinds of reports go. I also appreciated the detailed timeline in Appendix C.

  15. @Chigaze It appears they think fire continued along the river line to merge with the other fire and didn’t head up towards Patricia / Pyramid Lakes. Means likely would have possibly burned Edith and Annette. Some really nice places around there 😞 #Jasper #JasperWildfire

  18. Temperatures of 35°C used to be a rarity in Jasper.

Only 25 days that hot have been recorded in the past 110 years.

Of those, 12 have come since 2021, including 6 so far in 2024.

  19. Reading about the fire in Jasper, my former home, while thick smoke rolls into Calgary, my current home.

We visited Jasper last week. Our 2-year-old said tonight: “I don’t want the fire in Jasper. I want to go back to Jasper.” He was so sad.

I thought I would be too.

But it just feels … numb.
