    Ostensibly one of the more democratic countries in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan has been one of Russia's few remaining allies in the aftermath of its war against Ukraine. Kyrgyzstan hasn't signed the Rome Statute (ICC).

  6. It is exceedingly interesting to watch leaders of super-centralised systems institute People's Council-style formations - outside formal parliamentary structures - with winks to some historical roots - in order to apparently provide feedback channels and appear responsive.

    Latest example: #Kyrgyzstan with #Japarov's latest convocation of #Kurlutai - a convention previously used by populist presidents to no effect at all.
