This #CiviCRM PR (https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-core/pull/35430) –just merged after 10 weeks, all 86 comments of it– is a microcosm of what I love about #FOSS and Civi as a FOSS #techforgood community:
— The new River theme framework in Civi 6.0 last year introduced dark-mode that can be set once for all users.
- The International Union for Conservation of Nature (https://iucn.org) funded making this a per-user dark-mode toggle for their own Civi setup.
— Vangelis Pantazis of #Ixiam – Spain's biggest Civi agency – who'd done the original work, then put a lot more time to get this good to merge into Civi core. This has taken lots of core & community contributions and review.
— From my side, it meant tidying the CSS, merging it fully with River, then testing the new toggle against all the current sub-themes (Streams), in light and dark-mode.
— Then Ben Walpole from Core swapped it from cookie storage to a user dbse setting so it persists.
— And in ~three months, every Civi user can benefit from it. -
