So many mixed feelings about #OperaAustralia #TalesOfHoffmann last night. There's a whole small theatre company's annual budget in each act (flying equations ! Flying celli! Stilt walker and magic!)There's dancers everywhere, young and old, in what feels like every busy minute of the opera. I guess that explains why Antonia is now an ex-ballet dancer (and yes the French tradition etc.) There's #Camp galore for no seeming reason... #IvanAyonRivas is great in a #Kraus sort of voice. I didn't warm to #Pratt and #Mimica mugged the hell outta the villain roles. The Antonia act was a musical highlight though... Great ensembles as the music really hit its stride. If only the little ballerinas and the satanic dancers with red nipple pasties didn't keep appearing.
