Swatch Wednesday: Colorverse Black Hole
This was a gift from a friend who said it was more for the fun little bottle than anything exciting about the ink. It’s a pretty cute little bottle and I didn’t have one since I think the only colorverse ink I have is a sample.
Colorverse Black Hole ink bottle, which has an unusual teardrop shaped base. This is the front view showing the bit sticking out on one side. The illustration has a stylized black hole and a little planet saying “SOS” on it.
Love that little picture on the front. The bottle has a teardrop shaped base which I guess makes it a bit less likely to tip over and mostly just makes it interesting.
Colorverse Black Hole ink bottle, which has an unusual teardrop shaped base. This is thebottom view showing the teardrop shape, though it sits nice and flat because of the flat label on the front.
Inside, the ink is as one expects, a pleasant black. There’s a tiny bit of sheen visible in the swatch on the right, and indeed I can see that in my writing occasionally if I look at it under a sufficiently bright light, but it’s more a cute coincidence than a regular feature of the ink on the paper I’m using. Might be fun to try it on the iroful paper to see if it happens more consistently there; my current notebook is a leuchtterm.
My swatch card for Colorverse Black Hole, a black ink with a tiny hint of sheen in the bigger swatches.
I’m not too worried about getting the sheen to show up more, though, since the only other black ink bottle I have is a black with sheen from Inkvent Black (uuuh, Good Tidings I think it was called?). I’m guessing that Black Hole dries quicker, though I didn’t actually test that. I did, however, have some fun painting with it in the margins of my journal.
Some margin patterns in my notebook using Colorverse Black Hole ink on a paintbrush. One side has curly vine-like shapes, the other a geometric zig-zag with partial triangles.
Fun bottle and a nice practical ink. Overall a very nice present! And I think this is the last ink bottle or sample I had that I hadn’t swatched in my collection, so I’m all caught up and there’s no ink purchases on my horizon until the weather warms up, and maybe not even then — I’ve got so much to play with now!

For #InkSwatchWednesday this is Diamine Pine Needle from the Inkvent 2024 calendar. A really pretty green- a bit like Diamine classic green but with some green shimmer and lots of shading. Done with a glass dip pen and zebra g nib and brush #InkSwatch #FountanPens #Inkvent2024 #PibeNeedle I did this on the day, but only got around to documenting it now!

CW: Inkvent day 20, with inedible doodles
#inkvent Day 20 Potpourri ’Standard’. A moody purple with loads of shading. I have been looking for a colour like this for a while. I love it. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
Of the inks I own, it’s closest to J. Herbin’s Moon Dust, but Moon Dust is dark, warmer, wetter, and has less shading. I would definitely buy a full of this one!

CW: Inkvent day 18 swatch with cacophonous doodles
#inkvent Day 18 Vibe ’Extreme Sheen’. This is a dark teal blue with lots of purple sheen. This has more sheen than any ink I have ever used before. It is almost like enamel on the page. Alphabet is with a glass dip pen & metal nib. The larger swatch is with a brush. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
Of the inks I own it is most similar in tone to my favourite blue ink, Diamine’s Eau de Nil Though Eau has no sheen and is lighter.

CW: Inkvent Swatch & Oh Hell No doodle
#inkvent Day 19 Fruit Salad ’Scented’. Neon orange with a baby aspirin scent. I could hardly get an alphabet out. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
The smell is a Proustian return to the eternal sick bed of my 70s childhood. The weird thing is my cat is super into it!? (She likes repulsive things). Where I used it with a brush, the paper disintegrated. A joke ink. The second dud in the calendar, next to ‘lemon lime’

CW: Invent swatch & wild landscape doodles
#inkvent Day 16 Tundra ’Standard’. A beautiful warm grey with lots of shading. I would use this ink every day, for all things. Alphabet is with a glass dip pen & metal nib. The larger swatch is with a brush. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
Of the inks I own it is most similar to Pilot Iroshizuku Yama guri/Wild Chestnut except it’s cooler with no green tones. It’s also similar to J. Herbin’s Cacao du Bresil, but Tundra is cooler in tone and darker.

CW: Inkvent swatch with cozy winter doodles
#inkvent Day 15 Sleigh Ride ’Intense Sheen’. A rusty brown with bright coral chroma & a green sheen. Alphabet is with a glass dip pen & metal nib. The larger swatch is with a brush. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
I don’t own anything like this but it’s similar to a sample of Vinta Havana I had.— I found that one very difficult to clean—pink residue lingered! This has similar issues. If anyone has cleaning tips for stubborn pigments, please tell me!

CW: Inkvent swatch with botanical doodle
#inkvent Day 14 Mint Twist ’Chameleon’. This is a true green with green-copper shifting shimmer. Alphabet is with a glass dip pen & metal nib. The larger swatch is with a brush. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
Of the inks I own it is most similar in tone to Diamine classic green, but this has shimmer.

CW: Inkvent day 13 with cute map doodles
#inkvent Day 13, Lullaby ’Standard’. This is a desaturated pink-purple. Alphabet is with a glass dip pen & metal nib. The larger swatch is with a brush. Not really into this one. #InkSwatch #fountainPens #inksky
I can’t see inking a pen with this. It’s very watery, but with little shading or dimension. Maybe it would work as a highlighter ink? It’s a cute colour and would work well if you are drawing/
Ipaining with ink instead of writing.
