So, last time I went back to France and met my uncle, an old story came back on the table. There is a very old box, with many many hand written letters from my grandparents in it. It's been left unattended for tens of years in the garage of another uncle who past away recently. And my uncle sometimes wonder if these letters are not worth something. My grandparents experienced war of course, but they had also even more unusual stories to tell. My grand father was responsible for the Asian market of a french company, and spent many years traveling, and even living, in various places in Asia. In particular, they were living in French Indochine when it collapsed, with at that time two young children (which would become four later). I had promised myself to, one day, try to find what to do about these letters, at least to know if they have any interest at all. Last month I've finally searched and got in contact with a researcher who showed some curiosity at least about them. I've then pushed my father and uncle to dive a bit into the box and see what's inside. Yesterday I've got to read three first letters, and wow ! Stories of fleeing through the country in civil trucks requisitioned by the army while my grand father get separated from my grand mother with the two children, trying to figure out if the government will issue an order for evacuation and so on... We have no idea what the other letters are about, certainly not everything is interesting but anyway, I'm hooked !
Not sure how things will evolve though. My uncle is very old and unhealthy, my father doesn't look that much motivated for the time consuming task of going through the whole box, and I'm on the other side of the planet unable to help. I'm trying to convince them to at least show these three letters to the researcher, which I believe will be even more interested than I am. My father was too young to remember, but my uncle does. Now I hope he can share what he remembers while he still can. And I'm looking forward the development of this affair...

J'étais la seule à croire qu'Indochine chantait les louanges d'un "Canard Ebay" ?

Petite j'adorais cette chanson (spoiler : y avait peut-être une raison 😅), mais je ne comprenais vraiment pas le rapport entre un canard acheté sur Ebay et des filles qui s'embrassent et vivent en secret dans une baie cachée.

Avec le temps j'ai fini par comprendre que ce n'était pas tant ce canard Ebay qui m'attirait tant dans la chanson.
Et un peu plus tard à -enfin- lire le vrai titre en le téléchargeant sur Emule (petit âne parti trop tôt).

Bref, j'écoute Indochine (une envie annuelle soudaine, vraiment, ne me jugez pas) et j'ai repensé à ce canard.
