I was also super thrilled to get a great sunrise the day before we left Phnom Penh. Felt like a rewarding end to the multiple visits during our stay.

As I took more photos, I started to try and find more angles. More details. I just loved the way they lit up the monument at night time and how it created different options. I feel like it really created interesting contrasts in the textures of the columns that made me think of some ancient culture.

As a photographer, one of my favorite things to do is be able to revisit a spot and get to know it better with each visit. When I’m traveling, I don’t always get that opportunity. But when Tanya and I stayed in Phnom Penh, we were close enough to the Independence Monument to be able to get there pretty regularly. As long as it wasn’t blocked off by visiting delegates, it wasn’t pouring buckets or traffic wasn’t a crawl. (;
