The State provides food, security, services. In return it asks those who can, contribute more and individualistic people complain. What do the Lanwin’s uniquely contribute to the Country to deserve special political treatment?

    Risk, reward.

You want more risk, I say your failure is not securing more funding to make a better product to sell more in Aus. Cant get funding Aus? Yeah, that’s the risk adverse business culture of Aus. Dig a hole, get money. Build something, a big NO. You would most likely have left anyway, the traditional port being SV.

Good luck and know that .ie has a similar housing problem as Aus AND a history of sectarian violence with soggy weather.

  25. Easy A’s, Less Pay: The Long-Term Effects of Grade Inflation nber.org/papers/w34952
"Being assigned a higher average grade inflating teacher reduces a student's future test scores, the likelihood of graduating from high school, college enrollment, and ultimately earnings. In contrast, passing grade inflation reduces the likelihood of being held back and increases high school graduation, with limited long-run effects. The cumulative impact is economically significant: a teacher with one standard deviation higher average #gradeInflation reduces the present discounted value of lifetime earnings of their students by $213,872 per year"

  30. How ‘Tiny Shortcuts’ Are Poisoning Science nautil.us/how-tiny-shortcuts-a
"The #credibility crisis of #science is not about scientific progress invalidating previously held scientific beliefs, which is intrinsic to the very nature of scientific revolutions. Rather, the crisis has been caused by scientists who deliberately publish overconfident, misleading, and often simply false empirical results based on research designs or model specifications they have intentionally specified to give the desired results
… tweaking is about scientists pursuing their own interests in a competitive, vulnerable system based on #trust and on freedom from control by institutions that enforce rules.

But much would be gained if scientists were honest about the uncertainties associated with scientific results—honest with other scientists in scientific publications and honest in public statements. "

  32. Software developer Matheus Lima writes about how simplicity in software designs often gets trumped by over-engineered designs. He concludes from his experience that currently promotion criteria is mostly skewed towards rewarding complexity.

He goes on to propose courses of action that could change this for both engineers and engineering leaders. Simplicity needs to be made visible.
