In 2015 I took a trip to France, England and Scotland. I could barely parse Scottish and I found French opaque. I convinced myself I could never speak another language. Now in 2026 I have been told my German is "Praktisch Muttersprachig" (Practically mothertongue) and "Umgangssprachlich" (Colloquial). Well on my path to citizenship.
I was divorced in 2016 and was convinced I'd be alone and was hella straight. Turns out I am hella bi, am now engaged to a person with almost the same gender as myself. I was also convinced of my jealousy, turns out I am polyam.
I worked in a few kitchens to get by on bills when I was younger. I was convinced I could never be like the chefs I watched. I struggled with dishes for chrissakes. Now I have been a head chef and a sous chef INCLUDING in another country in another language with a different culinary style.
I was convinced I should get on disability for my OCD. I did years of therapy and now it's mostly under control.
I'm not saying you can do anything you can set your mind to. I certainly can't. I'm more saying that a lot of the limits we place on ourselves are self or society imposed and are just made up. Just peer pressure we impose on ourselves like how human jaws could easily bite off a finger but our brains will not let us or a mother could lift a car to save a child. We impose limits on ourselves as a way of saying we are safe here when often we are not. We are stuck in the same rut we always were and convinced we could never change.
Don't be afraid to be that crazy hippie commie gay aunt. Be that gay metal butterfly you were meant to be! I am the cool gay aunt now and you can be too.

Sind bei der ARD jetzt alle Fachredaktionen tot?
Julius Baumeister scheint ein junger Journalist zu sein, der sich für Menschenrechte engagieren will. Das sagt jedenfalls meine Suchmaschine. Er hat sich aber nun leider in der ARD-Sportschau mehrerer Eigentore schuldig gemacht. Und das wirft die Frage auf, warum niemand seiner redaktionellen Mitspieler*innen ihm dabei geholfen hat, sie zu vermeiden. In guten Fussballteams wird das trainiert.
Es geht um seinen Beitrag zu Sportkooperationen mit Ruanda. Der wirft die Frage auf, welcher lobbyistische Druck sich hinter diesem Agendasetting verbirgt. Ich will nicht anzweifeln, dass sich die ruandische Regierung mannigfacher Verbrechen schuldig gemacht hat. Ihre innenpolitische Legitimation bezieht sie freilich aus einer Landesgeschichte, über die sich wir Deutsche als Letzte moralisch erheben sollten. Und dass der ruandische Kriegsgegner im Ostkongo, die kongolesische Regierung, in Menschenrechtsfragen satisfaktionsfähig ist – das wäre eine echt neue Nachricht. Wie gesagt: nichts davon will ich rechtfertigen. Radikalste Kritik daran ist angebracht.
Aber warum lässt Baumeister sie in seinem Film durch die aufgebotenen Zeugen und Belege selbst dementieren? Über den Fussballkonzern im süddeutschen Raum und seine sportpolitische Glaubwürdigkeit ist hierzulande eigentlich schon alles gesagt, insbesondere von seinen kritischen Vereinsmitgliedern selbst, die sich regelmässig von einem am Tegernsee residierenden Wurstfabrikanten dafür beschimpfen lassen müssen. Dass der ebenfalls benannte PSG faktisches Eigentum der Sklavenhaltergesellschaft des Emirates Qatar ist – das weiss in der internationalen Fussballwelt spätestens seit der dortigen WM jedes Kind. Insbesondere, wenn es gelegentlich ARD-Sportschau geguckt hat.
Die optische Spitzenleistung war jedoch, zwei Arsenal-Fans mit “Emirates”-Trikots vor dem “Emirates-Stadium” vor die Kamera zu stellen, und sie stammeln zu lassen, dass Ruanda noch schlimmer als Tottenham sei. Die Vereinigten Arabischen “Emirates”, von denen sie sich in London aushalten lassen, waren aktive Kriegspartei im Jemen, und sind aktive Waffenlieferanten in den failed States Libyen und Sudan – allesamt mit Recht als “grösste humanitäre Katastrophen” klassifiziert. Ihre gewaltsamen Entführungen flüchtiger Prinzessinnen sind dagegen ja fast schon eine feuilletonistische Bagatelle – nach unseren Gesetzen freilich schwerste organisierte Kriminalität. “Unsere” Partner – ist doch wunderbar.
So what, liebe musterdemokratische Fussballkonzerne und eingebettete Medien?

Tsellot Melesse hat für die Berliner Multimedia-Produktionsfirma Iconoclast eine Dokumentation über den schwarzen deutschen Star gedreht, und das eben noch kritisierte ZDF hat sie als “Sportstudio-Reportage” in seine Mediathek gestellt.
ZDF-Trailertext: “Die Doku gewährt außergewöhnlich persönliche Einblicke in das Leben einer Athletin, die nicht nur auf dem Spielfeld glänzt, sondern auch abseits davon für Veränderung kämpft und offen über Gleichberechtigung, Identität und Selbstzweifel spricht.” Verfügbarkeitsdauer nicht angegeben. Die Inhaltsangabe kann ich bestätigen. Als fauler weisser Sack muss ich ergänzend gestehen: dieses Berühmtsein wäre mir zu anstrengend. Respekt!

I have a bipolar reaction to the poetry of Dylan Thomas - it is either brilliant or incomprehensibleI'm familiar with the introduction to #UnderMilkWood (=brilliant) and so was looking forward to reading the whole thing.
It is a play. Supposedly
But I now have to add a third category for DT - meh.
As a "play", it fails utterly on plot, message, and metaphor. Very disappointing. #DNF=> Shelve; try again later. Maybe.
