Elephant's Trunk Nebula and its locality (IC1396): My first attempt to adapt a thirty years old 90mm f2.8 macro lens to an astro camera. 4 nights in Feb-March '26, total exposure 3 hrs 37 min, narrowband Ha-Oiii filter, processed in Siril.
The bright red star on the outer edge of the nebula at 4 o'clock is Mu Cephei, William Herschel's Garnet Star, one of the largest stars in our galaxy.

Trotz enormer Probleme mit meiner Technik bin ich mit dem Ergebnis ganz zufrieden. Etwa 2 1/2 Stunden Belichtungszeit über 2 Nächte. Einmal von einer Bortel 3-4 Gegend und eine Nacht vom heimischen Garten aus.

The Elephant Trunk Nebula (IC 1396) in the constellation Cepheus in SHO palette.
This image was captured over three nights with an OSC (RGB) camera and two different dual narrow-band filters (Sulphur + Oxygen and Hydrogen + Oxygen emissions) allowing the SHO palette (Sulphur=Red, Hydrogen=Green and Oxygen=Blue). SHO images are usually captured with a monochrome camera and three separate narrow-band filters, one for each emission line.

The Elephant Trunk Nebula (IC 1396) in the Cepheus constellation.
A short night of astrophotography under the full moon yesterday night. I was mostly going to gather some hydrogen alpha (Ha) signal on the red channel of the camera which is less affected by the moon glow but I decided to try processing the RGB image anyway.
This is not my best image by far but I'm glad how it turned out considering the capture conditions. I am looking forward to combine this data with future data from a longer night with better sky conditions.

It contains the #ElephantTrunk nebula, a long dense pocket of dust and gas just to the left of the bright blue star at its center. Our nights have been so cloudy that I got up at 3:30 this morning to capture two hours of exposures while the sky was finally clear. IC1396 could use a lot more exposure time to really bring out the colors. #StillLearning
