I wonder what our #IARUHF world championship is really supposed to measure or reward in a HQ national team:

A: Strategy and fine operating procedures

(My experience: HQ stations are generally a pleasure to work!)

B: Ability of the HQ team to enlist support from their country's ham population.

The kind of person I am, I prefer A over B.

But I admit, from a global perspective, B probably promotes active participation in #HamRadio better.

The #hamradio World Championship results are out. Personally, I achieved my highest score ever, which puts me close to the top third of all participating stations. That makes me happy!

I had been wondering why I didn't reach the French national team TM0HQ during the championship. Only today found out they actually did not take part at all. The official reason I found was "the people who had been doing it were not available and we found no others to fill in". That makes me a bit sad.

The big #hamradio #contest|s are loved for bringing traffic to our bands and fun to many shacks. But also detested when other CW and phone use of the classical bands is unceremoniously pushed aside.

Last weekend's #iaruhf competition's rule 6.3 requires participants to stick to any preferred contest frequencies regional bandplans might advise. E.g., region 1 participants must not use 14.060-14.070 MHz for CW contest participation.

But many did.

I'm curious how the #ARRL will uphold the rules.

In retrospect, my result is a bit disappointing: Fewer stations outside of Europe, and lower QSO rate, compared with last year.

I was rather on track to still score a good result (by my standards). But when my alarm clock rang after the two or three hours of sleep I had allotted to myself, it took me several more hours to actually wake up and become QRV again 🙄.

But it was worth it.

Main antenna here. It sits 21m agl.
I added a sloping vertical dipole (top at 16m) and an elevated GP with feedpoint 6m high and two tuned elevated radials slightly sloping down (a/k/a my #pota antenna).
Three antennas fed with homebrew Stackmatch for all permutations (A, B, C, AB, AC, BC, ABC) with Arduino controller.
If you work OPØHQ in this weekend's #hamradiocontest on 20m CW, this is how we exchange RF. Gimme a call!
