Ocho militares han sido detenidos tras un operativo contra el narcotráfico en los que murieron cinco jóvenes que viajaban a borde de una camioneta en el cual no se encontró armas ni droga.

Fierce police crack-down on youth protesters #Peru
Hundreds of young people took to the streets of #Lima, #Cusco, #Trujillo, #Arequipa and #Huancayo to protest against the government of Dina #Boluarte on the weekend of the 20 and 21 September. In Lima around 500 protesters from the youth collective Generación Z were met with 5,000 (!) police officers in riot gear, firing tear gas canisters and pellets to prevent them from congregating in major squares and avenues.

Cardinal #Barreto resigns his position as Peru’s second cardinal #Kirche #Peru
Pope Francis this week accepted the resignation of the cardinal archbishop of #Huancayo, Pedro Barreto. This clears the way for the appointment of a younger man to replace Barreto who turned 80 on 14 February. Cardinals over the age of 80 are barred from taking part in the selection of a new pope.
