  1. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/a. "YouGov’s survey of 1,800 people in #England & #Wales found that people thought 55% of convicted #killers were from an #ethnic #minority, when the real percentage is 35%. They also thought just 45% of #homicides were committed by #white people, when the real figure is 64%. #Reform #voters were furthest from the #truth, believing 70% of #killers were from ethnic minorities - 10% more than voters of any other party." So, #Racism isn't a problem? Like Hell it isn't!

  2. #ONS state that #homicides ( #Murder and #Manslaughter ) in #England and #Wales are at their lowest level in 50 years).

I have no reason to disbelieve these #statistics, so why does it seem there are so many #murders in #news?

near 500 is still more than one every day, but another factor is delays between an incident and subsequent investigation and Court cases, and when a case is in Court same #crime will repeatedly appear in the news - its easy to double count incidents.

Also 30-40 years ago it wasn't quite as easy to see news from a region many miles away from your home area, but today "local" news sites fill up the space with crime reports from other areas.

This must impact a lot on fear of crime amongst those who aren't paying close attention..

  3. Black men and boys are particularly likely to be killed in England and Wales. A Black boy aged 10–17 is 13.4 times as likely to be a victim of homicide as a White boy of the same age.

Being unemployed is associated with a *much* higher risk of being killed. Unemployed people are 16 times more likely to be victims of homicide than the population as a whole in England and Wales. Unemployed men aged 30–49 make up 0.9% of the population but 16% of all homicide victims.

  4. Figures released Monday, 12th January confirm an 11% reduction in #homicides compared to 2024 - this represents the lowest total in sixteen years, with #London's diverse, multi-ethnic population having risen by more than half a million since then.

Of course, the #MetropolitanPolice don't shoot #Londoners like those big, tough masked #ICEpussies do.

  5. In 2022, the #police in the #UnitedStates #failed to solve over 800,000 violent #crimes, including roughly 10,000 #homicides, 525,000 #assaults, 169,000 #robberies, and 98,000 #rapes. This begs the #question of what the police get paid to do, beyond killing unarmed #minorities and crushing #dissent.

  6. Dr. Jeremy Faust, an ER doctor at Mass General Brigham Hospital in Boston, who was the study’s lead author, said he was dismayed to find that most of the #children’s #deaths were #homicides & #suicides.

“It’s surprising how few of these are accidents. I always thought that a lot of pediatric mortality from #guns is that somebody got into the wrong place, & I still think #SafeStorage is important, but it’s mostly homicides & suicides,”Faust said.

  7. #Trump’s proposed #budget would abolish a #CDC center that studies how to prevent #injuries, #suicides & #homicides, including those caused by #firearms. It was one of several CDC centers eliminated by the proposed budget, which cut CDC funding by about half.

  8. "Of [traceable] #crime guns recovered in #Mexico from 2017 to 2021... more than one of every four (29 percent) was sourced to #Texas...

More than 22,000 gun #homicides occur in Mexico each year... that means 5,500 murders in Mexico likely involved #guns from Texas."
