#holos — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #holos, aggregated by home.social.

  1. #Holos is a new social network working with #ActivityPub. This is not an app where you can connect your Mastodon, Pixelfed or PeerTube account.
There is no web version and no API because the ActivityPub server runs on the device itself. That's the whole challenge behind this project.
If there is more engagement, I plan to build a desktop version and even sync between different devices.

The official account for all announcements is @HolosSocial

  2. #Holos 1.5.6 is available.

This release focuses on UI polish. On #iOS, the pull to refresh spinner is now visible in timelines, and compose menus no longer render behind the modal. On #Android, the emoji picker stays above the keyboard.

It also fixes posts not showing up on the web while online.

  3. RE: mastodon.social/@HolosSocial/1

#Holos joining #FDroid will be another challenge.
I personally want to encourage everyone to use their own custom domain to fully own their Fediverse identity. You can also use your own S3/WebDAV for backups and media hosting.
This setup means no dependency on a relay.
If the relay goes down, if you get blocked, or if you want to move, you keep your full identity.
This F-Droid release should help attract more users and bring in more feedback to move the project forward.

  4. Following the recommendations I got, I set up a #NodeBB forum to discuss the projects #Fedilab, #Holos, #CastLab and #Fedle.

Each category federates over #ActivityPub, so you can follow it directly from your Fediverse account: @fedilab, @holos, @castlab, @fedle.

  10. #Holos was successfully built on #FDroid, releases should be available soon. We are really close now, thank you for your patience. Google Play Store will follow after that.

    #HolosSocial

  11. A new version of #Holos has been released (1.5.5).

It introduces support for "web+ap://" links (fedilinks), so profiles and posts can now be opened directly in Holos. The sync experience is also smoother with less UI freezing, and post deletion is more reliable: posts are kept locally until all remote instances confirm removal, with automatic retry on failure.

  12. #Holos 1.5.4 is available.

Activity delivery now goes through the relay proxy, which fixes boost and like failures on #iOS. Sync performance is also improved.
It also brings several fixes: images disappearing after posting, the iOS "No valid public key" error during setup, and the custom relay tunnel URL being ignored.

  18. #Holos 1.5.3 is available.

New: in-app notification banner when interactions arrive while using the app. Tapping a DM notification now scrolls to and highlights the message.
Leading mentions are no longer shown in DM conversations.
It also brings a fix for a UI freeze during inbox cleanup.

  19. For those who have questions about #Holos. I've seen a lot written recently, and since the project is young, it's normal that things stay ambiguous or get misunderstood. This is a thread, with one post per remark most often read, and a direct answer.

  20. #Holos 1.5.2 is available.

New: follow requests screen for locked accounts, delivery error details in pending actions.

It also brings several fixes, full release notes at codeberg.org/tom79/Holos-App/r

Available on #FDroid, #AltStore, and soon on TestFlight.

  22. On #Holos, the user decides where media lives. Cached on the relay (10 MB cap), or pushed to a personal S3, WebDAV. Signed URLs for private buckets, direct URLs for public ones. Video compression configurable on the device before upload. Backups and media can share storage or be separated.
The architecture makes it possible: there is no instance admin to ask, and the relay holds no media beyond a temporary cache. The choice belongs to the user.

    #HolosSocial

  23. When trying to follow a #Holos account from another account (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.), seeing a pending request is normal even if the account is not locked. The server runs on the device and the relay cannot sign activities on its behalf, so the "Accept" is automatically sent once the app is back online.

    #HolosSocial

  24. #Holos 1.5.1 is available.

UX improvements throughout the app, including VoiceOver and TalkBack labels. Quick access to interests from the Discover tab. Translation uses the app language and preserves mentions, hashtags and links. Reactions are now properly synced across all screens. It comes with other enhancements, check the full release notes: codeberg.org/tom79/Holos-App/r

#iOS version will be published tomorrow.

  26. Has anyone already seen events in Holos?

I'm following gancio accounts and mobilizon accounts and some self written event pages like steelfeed.de

    Nothing is shown here.
In theory I love the idea behind an event only view...
Will you bring those views to Fedilab too Tom?

How is that working @[email protected] @[email protected] ?
