  3. Oh nice, this years #SANS #HolidayHack challenge is live.

I can once again take the opportunity to practice fluidly transition between the boolean states of InfoSec Peeps, SicSkillz and N00b 5cr!ptK!dd!3.

  4. #HolidayHack #CTF #KringleCon is launching any day now!!! @SANSInstituteOfficial @counterhacksec has been kicking it off in early November, so grab my cheatsheet on how to get started, and let's gooooo! bit.ly/HolidayHack2025

  5. Alright #HolidayHack #CTF fans, are you ready?! It's launching soon, and I was able to spend a day with the CounterHack elves as they put their final touches on this year's game! To celebrate I am releasing my CheatSheet earlier than ever: bit.ly/HolidayHack2025

  6. Loved the new #HolidayHack format this year, releasing challenges in 4 acts! I'll hack web and JS, curl and PowerShell, hardware and mobile apps. There are two SOC / SIEM like challenges, and ransomware decryption.

  7. The Chrome Local Overrides feature is very cool. Use local files to mock out HTTP requests in the dev tools.

What better place to play with this than the #HolidayHack Snowball Showdown challenge in Act 2. Watch it now (Act 3 is live!):

  8. The PowerShell terminal is one of the most difficult challenges so far in #HolidayHack. Lots of interacting with a webserver and parsing data.

With the opening of Act 3, my video solution is now up on YouTube:

  9. With the start of #HolidayHack Act 2, three YouTube Videos from Act 1 are now live!

I'll walk through the cURLing challenge, brute force a pin on the Frosty Keypad, and show a neat Easter egg in the Shreds image metadata.

  10. In the Elf Connect challenge from #holidayhack 2024, I'll hack a Elf game based on the NYT connections game. I'll show some basics for browser dev tools, and a couple ways to cheat the game.

  11. I had so much with playing the
SANS #HolidayHack challenge this year. A lot of AI focus. I still can't believe how easy it is to make a fake voice clip (which is one of the challenges). Also some good examples of ChatGPT just being wrong!

  12. My unfortunate annual infosec holiday season tradition…

    - Receive email reminder of upcoming Holiday Hack event from SANS
    - Get super excited and tell myself I am *totally* going to play this year
    - Even plan to blog about it / do a full write-up
    - Day comes where it is finally released!
    - Tell a bunch of people that it is out and they should do it too
    - Not have any time to actually do it / forget about it for one reason or another
    - Not actually participate even a little bit
    - Enjoy the holidays
    - January rolls around and the write-ups start coming out
    - Regret I never participated
    - Tell myself I will go back and do it one day (SANS keeps all previous Holiday Hacks available online for free ~ awesome!)

This isn’t mean to demean Holiday Hack. It’s an awesome CTF with cool gameplay, music and more. I highly recommend anyone in infosec (or outside of infosec) play if they can. For those of you who have time or make time to do it this year or any other year I applaud you and aspire to do it more myself.

    Happy Hacking!
