  1. Entering in birthdays, trips, and notions to the 2026 #HobonichiCousin. And wishing I had a stack of Michael’s Kitchen pancakes or a breakfast burrito in front of me.

  2. I've settled into a fairly regular pattern with my Hobonichi Cousin daily pages. I am still in love with my Namiki Falcon Soft Fine, and I have Noodler's 54th Massachusetts in it, after a *lot* of ink samples of various blue-black and waterproof/bulletproof inks.

I'm really happy with it, though I still use a black 0.4mm Sarasa Dry in my weekly spreads (with all the stickers).

  3. Someone told me recently that my planner is really an art journal with a job, and they're not wrong.

I also kind of wonder if this combination of things (art, journal, planner) plus the fact that my life is ridiculously hectic is the reason I've kept doing it.

I've never kept a planner before in my life (outside of when I was in college), I've never kept a journal before (unless it was mandated externally), and I certainly haven't ever used art materials this way.

But somehow the three together has turned this six month planner into something I've not only used basically every single week and every single day, but something I've consistently kept up with making "pretty" (even if all I see are the flaws).

I'm about to finish this whole book - it's a 6 month Hobonichi Cousin that started in July - and I actually have all kinds of feelings about it, that seem reminiscent of when an artist friend finishes a sketchbook. It's kind of cool.

Maybe I'll do a flipthrough once it's done. My whole life for six months is in this thing, in my messy writing, decorated with stickers and markers and colorful washi tape in various patterns. Each week I sit down and plan the week ahead, and it's a working tool so stuff gets scratched out and moved around. Every day I have a to-do list, a place for notes. Swatched markers and inks, work and life and home and grove and everything else. But it's a documentation of six months of my life, and I am really kind of proud of that.
